This sucks, I had already bought the subtitle-less TW release...

EDIT: It's also REGION-FREE. Almost makes me scared it could be bootleg, but yes-asia isn't supposed to carry any.

I thought I bought that 3-eyed 1 set from yesasia, & that was almost certainly a bootleg. :p
Hence the "supposed" to, but at least they did remove it after I called them about it.

Anyway, thanks to Bigdog for the info, and the movie is also on dddhouse with the same release date, and announced on other forums in advance by anime expert WTK, there's no doubt it's legit.

I won't buy it, because even the Taiwan DVD I own I didn't plan to watch again (I have a 720p TV rip that looks much better). However I hope someone will rip the subtitles so I can compare them with the fansubs.

No problem. The one thing I learned is if random-ass dvds come out of the woodwork that claim to be X, they most likely are bootlegs. In some aspects boots can be great quality ,but they really are counter-intuitive towards the goal of official releases in the Western World especially in the States in the premise of foreign properties like tokusatsu and anime as well as indie/bollywood which suffer far more than any releases from Hollywood no matter how much they try to make people believe they lose money .

I would buy a Jungle Taitei set (the Kimba saga to Leo in Japanese) altogether if it was subbed/restored . I wouldn't mind if they split the first series into two seasons and bundled the first two with a translated version of the manga. And then for the final set ,include the third volume? That would be my dream set for the series. I'm not sure what should happen with the 1989 series other than just scrap the original script for the episodes after 6 for ones that would follow :tezuka: 's vision for it instead of the emo fest in a redub. Just find some way to make it less like Spiderman 3.

Has Black Jack ever been released on DVD? I mean the first film and the other OVAs? I miss the film after watching its awesomeness on Syfy in 2005 or 2007.

Just gonna note that Buddha did not get English subtitles on both the Taiwanese and Hong Kong DVDs.

But because Tetsuwan Atom imported what is most likely a bootleg from Malaysia but that DOES have English subtitles, I am anxiously waiting to hear about the quality of those subs, as it seems that they'll be the best we'll have.

EDIT: I just stumbled on the news that Media3 Estudio will release the movie in Spain. If I understand well, it'll get a theatrical release there first, and then come out on both DVD and Blu-ray (...and now I regret getting the expensive Japanese Blu-ray).

Malaysia and Region-Free DVD are usually synonyms with bootleg, but you could be right. I guess the quality of the subtitles will confirm if it's a real release (even then, maybe it's a copy of a real release? If only Atomars could help us at knowing what stores sell only legit Malaysian DVDs...). I would be totally glad to submit the news to Tezuka in English that there is a legit English release of the movie out there.

Thank you so much for ripping the subs when you do. SubRip needs a little getting used to, so the first time may take 5 minutes or so to figure it all out. So again, thanks for helping me out!

Can't wait!
You gotta help me out i kinda don't know what UDF Media means i looked it up but that din't help much either

I then checked quickly if it would work at all and it just did fine on a DVD player but the thing is i cant accces the dvd in a computer i have never ever heard of that but apparently it's possible.

It might indicate that it would be be a (region 3) bootleg after all but still why i can't access it on a pc leaves me in the dark.
