UNICO movies

Postby jeffbert » 13 years ago

I recently bought & viewed both, & am still wondering about the Point Tezuka was making with them. :p As near as I can tell, Unico was helpless to determine his own fate, beyond the small details, anyway. He was carried away much to his dismay; this seems to suggest an external locus of control. I believe this is consistent with Buddhism, which, to me, teaches that we should not form attachments, lest they be broken, & we be saddened.

While there were humorous parts in the films, their endings were sad. I would not think they would be popular in Western nations.

Your right about not being popular for a general western audience the humerous stuff doesn't suite the sad endings at all.
Also there where still some creepy caracthers and fights in them that woudn't have done it for a verry young western audience but there where still movies for all ages in Japan so the message about attachment din't go as far in this as in other works but yeha i really liked the endings they even made my cry a little :D .

The movies where good after all but i think i like the the Fantastic adventures a bit more than the Island of Magig, also Dsicotec awesomeness with including the pilot film was a nice supprise that was also in there release from the first season of Lupin the third way to go Discotec come out with more awesome stuff.

Hopefully more Tezuka soon ? because this release with a Dub at hand and privious american rights holders that never released it as a step up it did seem to be a bit of an easy opportunity to release this specific title :shifty:

Discotek Media has already said they would release the movies on a double feature Blu-ray later this year.
