Recovering files from a crashed computer.

Postby Big Astro Fan » 13 years ago

Does anybody know how tol restore files from a computer that has crashed? I was able to recover most of my important files from a flash drive and a SD card. But a lot of my downloaded pictures are lost for right now.

Yup, plug your old hard drive to another computer. If you can't open another computer to put it inside, you can get an adapter to plug it via USB or an enclosure to turn the internal drive into an external one.

Then your hard drive has crashed. The pictures may still exist, but they will need a recovery tool. As a first step, you may try to copy everything on another drive and ignore all errors. Then you should try to check that everything is ok (provided there is not too much pictures). After that you may have an idea of which pictures have problems; recovering them won't be easy, but it may be possible.

While trying to recover, it is important not to modify your data, so you may try several tools. I advise you to do an image copy of your disk.

The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I got everything back up and running. I have a network drive that has most of my Astro pics on it. So I found it easier to redo the computer. Thanks for all the help everybody.
