Reno from Tetsuwan Atom 2003

Postby Toshio » 12 years ago

I was wondering about Reno from the 2003 series, is he a character specially developed for the anime or a Tezuka Star system character playing a new role with an different name?
Also I noticed that he was not much involved with Uran, so I thought of a story which both get close to learn about each other's side (the side of an all new advanced AI and the side of a real human boy):
Reno, inspired with the creation of Uran, requests Dr. Ochanomizu to allow her to live with him for a while, so he can learn how amazing is her Artificial Inteligence and her ability to communicate with animals.
Uran in other hand wish to learn how a real human boy lives, so she can understand why Atom wish so much for the peace between humans and robots.
He learns that Uran simulate the personality of a seven year old human girl perfectly, and as well that, despite the looks she is extremely powerful. But still able to control her strenght so she may not break things accidentally.
He is also facinated with her ability to make animals get close without fear.
Uran in other hand learns that Reno, despite not being a robot, is very noble and responsible with a wisdom which she never saw in her own brother.
However, a gang who hate ai robots target Uran and wish to destroy her, because she is a robot.
Reno escapes with Uran and convince her to not fight and just flee.
Unfortunatelly, both are surrounded and Reno fight the scoundrels himself while trying to get them away from Uran, however he ends up overhelmed.
But, he had a trump card: a sleeping bomb which he uses to knock the scoundrels and himself in the process, so Uran can leave unharmed.
Uran, then call the police and the criminals are arrasted.
Uran realizes that how humans can be brave and Reno learns how advanced AI like Uran can learn with the human nature and have hope for their own peaceful future.
What do you think?

I am no expert on Tezuka's STAR SYSTEM, but have about as much knowledge as anyone here, & I think he made his debut in the 2003 series. There are several other stories involving robots raising humans in Tezuka's works, one in particular in JETTER MARS, in which Lamp (I believe) & his female accomplice wrest an infant away from the android nanny his papa appointed over him. There is 2772, with a similar theme. Other than the theme of a human child reared by robots, I think RINO (check the spelling on his bedroom door) is a new character/actor.

Never trust English spellings on Japanese shows. Just saying.

Even the English side of the official Tezuka site has a lot of engrish on it and names that were simply guessed by the translator(s).

You've got a lot of really interesting story idea, Toshio. And I thought I saw his name as spelled Reno in a number of places, but I couldn't say specifically where.

I wish they would continue the series - of course now since the 2009 movie . . . does that rewrite of the story "count?" But you're right - he didn't interact with Uran, and you've created an interesting way for them to connect.

I think that the lack of interaction between Reno and Uran was a missed opportunity.
Come on, Dr. Ochanomizu is Reno's guardian and Reno doesn't even interacted so well with Uran, who was the newest advanced AI robot and as well Atom's sister.
Since Reno also enjoyed studying nature it would make sense if they have a close relationship and understanding about both human and advanced AI robot.
Reno will be present in my interpretation of Robot Circus, but I thought about adding Ham Egg as the previous circus owner who lost his rights after a robot broke down due lack of maintenance.
