Interesting perspective, Toshio. I guess we will never know why Tezuka gave Atom the Heinie guns. As for the joke about Uran's vacant childhood body, I am sure that the cultures are very different between the East & Western nations, I wonder if jokes we find funny might offend the Japanese. :ninja:

Come to think about, even the japanese children got away from that story.
They gave up of representing Atom and Uran as adult robots, because the children would feel displeased. Children likes Atom's kid nature, because it's how the character identify with them. It's the reason which we mostly saw him as a nine yeard old kid and why the japanese children got away from the CGI movie.
The movie got low rattings in the japanese networks and considering the cast of characters, Atom's own design, weak story, it was pretty doomed from start.
Back in topic, the design of Atom's new body from the final episodes of 2003 series is based in that ark. We can note that Atom don't wanted a new body which was offered by Dr. Tenma. Considering the turn of events that body was abandonned and problably got rusted out.
I really have to admit: that joke with Uran's previous body in that pic freaks me out O_O

Thank you, Jeffbert! And thank you to Strangewings for the translation. Maybe you can also tell us which other adventures were part of the First Grader manga. Especially since one can see it was so obviously different from Fourth Grader's "Astro Boy Returns"!

Based on Strangewings' translations the storyline does seem rather juvenile and derivative, to say the least! Does Atom interact with the two children throughout the serial, as do the adventures he goes on involve them? Just curious!

I  :astro: :)

I just have one last question re: the storyline for "Astro Boy--First Grader"
Did the storyline have Atom traveling through time trying to get home?

I  :astro: :)

They were present up until about the last installment.

Yes, Atom does have a time traveling ability, he even brings a triceratops to the modern world, just to show the kids his ability. Without looking again, I do not think he reached the kids' though time traveling; in fact, he was frozen in a chunk of ice, & fell onto their home.

BTW,

I have inquired about the word translated 'delicate'; in this context, it should be 'embarrassing'.

:p

I think the boy is Kenichi, because his bangs are similar.

Actually, I happen to think the "Astro Boy Returns" redesign isn't terrible- in fact, it's kinda cool. And I had realized that the new body in the 2003 version was based on that design after reading this a while back (that one is pretty awesome, too).

I suppose he DOES look less human, though. Looking like that all of the time would strike me as being somewhat inconvenient. If there was a way for him to toggle between appearances in a future incarnation, however...

Yes the redesign is interesting. I like the chest plate when it is colored correctly and not flesh colored, but I am not crazy about the dial on his forehead!

To Jeffbert: Just for clarification is "First Grader" all in color?
and
Does Atom just time travel or is he lost like in "Astro Boy Returns" seeking to find his home?

Would you say "First Grader" is a variation of "Astro Boy Returns" or are there very little similarities between the two?

I  :astro: :)

 I am using my laptop today, & all the scans are on the desk top PC. I will check this tomorrow, but, without looking, I would say that most are in several colors, a few are in two colors, & I think 1 is monochrome.

Dr. Fooler is messing with a space station, Atom defeats him, & he hangs his head in shame. I need to check to be sure about all that, but it is what I recall. Anyway, I do not recall anything about an end to Atom's quest, assuming there was one.
