A new series in every 20 years?

Postby Toshio » 12 years ago

So guys, don't you think that every 20 for a new remake is too much?
Think about this: 20 years...
Many of the voice actors will be no longer available and many fans will be moved on...
20 years... Man, that's too much time to wait for a new series.

On the bright side, the 2003 series is almost 10 years old. So that's one decade down! ^-^;

But yes, that /does/ seem to be the pattern. :(

That pattern really freak me out, we'll get too old when a new series comes...

What I mean is the fact that is still too much time and that most of us may not even be healthy to watch animes anymore.
Think better: 20 years...
That's too much.
Even Osamu Tezuka died in 1989 without being able to direct a new series.
I wonder if we don't got a remake in every 10 years because of Jetter Mars which was meant to be a remake and replacement, but it doesn't worked out.

Mars wasn't a replacement; he was a compromise that satisfied no one.

And I don't see any reason why any one of us shouldn't be healthy enough to do something as simple as watching television, even if 20 years is a good portion of time.

You should not forget that voice actors also get old and many of them will be unable to reprise roles when a new show comes out.
It's pretty pointless bragging about voice changes in our favourite characters, since in 20 years, the actor doesn't even sound like before.
And for what I read, Mars would become a replacement remake, but it doesn't worked out due the studio interference.
It was not Atom, no matter what.
20 years... A lot of things can happen in such long time, even really bad things...

Maybe I'm the only one on this forum that feels this way, but I honestly don't mind the fact that the gap between anime for Astro Boy has been 20 years and that we might have to wait 10 years for a new anime if the current pattern keeps going.

I understand that a lot of things can happen to voice actors in the span of 20 years. That doesn't mean that new voice actors with just as much potential as previous voice actors can't come along to replace the original voice actors. I personally think the replacement cast for the (Japanese) voice cast in the 2003 anime was great. The performance they gave for their own respective characters had its own charm.

That's not to say I wouldn't mind a new anime coming out before the next 10 years happens. It would be cool to bring the original voice actors back to play their respective roles again. Who knows? We might get something new next year for the 50th anniversary of the original Astro Boy anime.

All I'm saying is that whatever happens to the original voice actors happens. If they have to replace a voice actor, than they have to replace a voice actor. If old fans move on, then we can gain new fans if a new anime comes out or revive the fandom in an old fan of the series if a new anime comes out.

I have faith that a new anime will come out eventually, but I think it's too soon for a new anime to come out now. I wouldn't mind a new animated movie though.

The span between the end of the 60s series and the start of the 80s series. In comparison the end of the 80s series and the start of the 2003 series took 21 1/2 years.

I don't think Tezuka is going to wait a certain amount of years to make a new Astro Boy series just because of a supposed pattern that doesn't exist. They're likely going to wait until a new generation of kids to expose them to Astro Boy. How long that'll take is unknown.
