Denkou means lightning... I can't find any dictionary that says "lightray". Boku is also used by both genders, but can make girls sound like a tomboy.

Anyway, more on topic: I like Denkou and they are one of my favourite things about the 2003 series. Although I am more used to calling Denkou of the 2003 series a she because of an English translation of Akira Himekawa's comic. I also liked the comic version of the ending more than the cartoon version because I felt it had more emotional impact, while not being a complete tragedy since her brain was still functional.

As for Uran, I think she and Denkou would get along. Although because Denkou is naive, and Uran is a bit mischievous in her own way, it'd make for some interesting situations.

I've drawn them a few times. :)

There's so many different ways his name has been translated (or not translated) though... I could also have mentioned Frederik L. Shodt's translation of the manga: Electro. ;)
I'm on Twitter.

I suppose that "Lightning" and "Electro" give the impression he launch lightnings, so the name Denkou or Denko is more suitable.
I do not like the story of mangá, the title of the mangá "Let's save Lightning" is pretty stupid, after all the character's body exploded anyway.
It's like what happened with Lume from Metalder, her body exploded, but the brain unit was still unharmed.
But, there was a difference: Lume was made to explode once the protagonist transformed while Denkou was a innocent robot who ended fooled and later blowing up.
The episode 13 of the 1983 series had a quite cruel ending for the character who was shotdown to death while the bomb exploded.
