Hello Toshio and Astarisborn94. Thank you for all the warm welcomes.

Yeah, in a technical sense, physical growth would be harder to explain than mental development. Aside from the plot holes that would have occurred if physical growth would have happened, I’m not completely against the idea of Mars growing physically. But I feel Mars’s emotional growth should come first. Even if the characters don’t grow physically, it’s enjoyable to see then develop emotionally. It’s a lot better than a character that grows physically but their character stays exactly the same.

I agree that Mars and Uran would become great friends. I could see them team up and trying to pull pranks on Astro Boy. :P

The idea of robots growing up physically doesn't make sense, they would not be robots anymore and thinking carefully that's impossible.
Neither in Jetter Mars debut there was a mention about the growing up physically.
In fact, Yamanoue wanted him to be a prototype of robot made for war, he don't wanted to create a robot with the ability of growing physically.
There was a episode of Tetsuwan Atom 1980 series which showed the only way which a robot would grow up is by exchanging younger bodies with older bodies (child to teen, etc).
So, Jetter Mars case could be actually mentally.
But, I've started a fanfiction which Mars does meet Uran and befriends her.
Now, I'll wait for replies.
Any ideas for their meeting are welcome^^

Jetter Mars Encyclopedia?

And I had heard that that was where the "growing up" idea had originated. It's possible that they mistook it as physical growth, instead of mental. But the idea isn't entirely implausible, especially in regards to science fiction. (I, for one, would consider the involvement of nanotechnology.)

Another thing; when people grow physically, they tend to develop mentally, as well: they get smarter in many ways, for instance, learning new things as they grow- and remember, Mars was enrolled into school, after a while; the perfect place for a growing child to do multiple kinds of learning.

They are also taught the difference between right and wrong, by those who care for them as they grow. Mars was exposed to two different viewpoints: one from that of Dr. Yamanoue, who was militaristic, and cared about being strong, and being a "real man" (I seem to recall him saying to Mars that "real men don't cry!"); the other, from Dr. Kawashimo, and his "daughter", Miri, who believed in kindness and altruism, and who wanted Mars to be raised and treated more like a normal boy.

Mars was essentially a "blank slate" when he was first "born": he didn't know anything about anything, and the constant exposure to two strongly opposing viewpoints (war against peace) probably screwed him up a bit initially. Of course, ultimately, he had a mind of his own, and did things his own way, often to the dismay of others, and occasionally himself, due to the sometimes problematic consequences.

I don't believe that Mars would grow up physically, even in a science fiction it would hard to explain why a robot child would be able to grow up physically without even being a living being in the first place.
It would sound more like magic can science itself.
So, Tezuka did a episode which an robot AI was passed to several older robot bodies in the 1980 series of Tetsuwan Atom.
Though, at same time he did a retcon, since Dr. Tenma don't had the concern of Atom not being able to grow up in that show.

But, let's get back to the original subject:
Just all braw and no built-in weapons?
To think about, Mars would be the result of giving more horsepower and the ability to fly for Uran.
And giving built-in weapons could make both miss-use them.
Also, I thought in a funny pic called "Brats Forever" with Mars and Uran together.
Any more ideas?

The Jetter Mars Encyclopedia was a book that was published in a Japanese children magazine known as TV Land. It had information about the characters and gadgets that appeared in the series. The Enyclopedia had a diagram of Mars’s abilities which included human-like abilities as well as as robotic ones. Here is a scan of the page:

Yeah, I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find anything particularly useful.

Hmm, so Mars has a stomach? And apparently, crying is a superpower now. Huh.

Lulz, that picture of him sniffing the ground... so I take that to mean that he has a heightened sense of smell?

I think that the image in the bottom-left corner details his superstrength, in the form of his durability; but what about the one in the bottom-right corner?

Also, I think I may have seen a similar page for Miri's powers, from the same book... is there any page like this for Melchi, too?

Crying makes Mars more human-like but I see what you mean. It’s not really a superpower like laser beams or an arm cannon ^_^; . Mars’s ability to smell made me laugh, too! I don’t think he did that in the show. I’m not completely sure what’s going on in the bottom right corner. It looks like he talking to some kids who are going to play baseball (maybe inviting him to play). Since I can’t read Japanese, I don’t know what the connection this has to Mars’s abilities. Maybe it has something to do with socializing?

I didn’t find scans that about Melchi’s abilities yet, but I assume that he has one. I’ll keep a look out for a scan (most likely on Yahoo Auctions).

Back on topic, if Mars appeared again he might have the same abilities that was showed in this book.

Okay, thank you. I enjoy the information quite as much as I enjoy your avatar~ :D

Although, now that you mention it, that's not really a proper scan, is it? It looks more like a somewhat-decent photograph.

I'd love to own the Encyclopedia, even if I couldn't read it. I could always try to find someone that could translate it for me. :3

This reminds me; I wonder why the fansub was removed from YouTube?

"The YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated due to multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement."

Even though I'm the one who payed for that sub to be made, it really wasn't my intention that the subber put it on YouTube. I'm just happy to have the external subtitle files.
I'm on Twitter.

I don't even know what that means. .__.

So there was copyright infringement involved? Funny, there are plenty of other fansubs on YouTube that are still there. And there wasn't even a licensed English realease of the series...

Unless, they got canned for something else that they'd done? Pity; I already miss those few episodes that were subbed (even if one was a ripoff of a fansub of an episode of the Spanish version). I just wish that they hadn't been removed until /after/ the Wii YouTube channel premiered. The videos would have been in slightly better quality...
