If you're good at the Violin you should try playing a Theremin. That's a real cool instrument, and it was used in the sound tracks of many SiFi movies (like Forbidden Planet) because it can make a real 'electronic out of this world' sound. One of the most popular classical pieces often played on the Thermin is Saint-Saens' "The Swan" from "The Carnival of the Animals".

I've actually wanted to try the theremin for a while now. It's an extremely cool instrument.
The problem with it is that I have no idea where to even find a Theremin or how much it would cost. I've also wanted to play the harp, but that's kind of impossible right now considering how expensive harps are and how hard it is to find teachers. My mom does have a lair (mini harp basically), and I was hoping she could get it tuned so I could try to play it.

Ok first of all there's http://www.thereminworld.com/ They even has a new Theremin manga up for sale on their site. I think the best Theremins are made by Moog (yeah the same guys that made the famous synthesizer) http://www.moogmusic.com/products/Etherwave-Theremins , but these are good too http://www.soundslikeburns.com/ . If you can solder and build electronic kits there are lots of Theremin kits and you can save some money. Make sure you get one with TWO antennas, one for pitch and one for volume. Some cheaper units have only the pitch antenna, they are really just toys. You'll need an amplifier to play the Theremin, a guitar amp will work great but you can just plug it into the aux input on your stereo with a Y cable to combine both channels.

I recently remade a picture of mine (it's actually the mermaid I mentioned before), and I wanted to know what you thought.
