Idea; Chatbox for the Forum, good or bad?

One of my other forums that I like to frequent has it's own chatbox that allows its members to log in and chat about anything they want. I was wondering if anyone would like that for here. On my other forum, the specific chat program is free and called Chatango.

Just an idea.

I like that idea. There used to be a chat forum, but a chatbox might be a better idea.

Not a very good idea I guess, because it will decrease forum participation.
Plus, chatbox takes away the purpose of forum posting and members will tend to get lazy.

I actually thought that at first too, but it doesn't in my other forum. Forum participation is just as strong as ever.

If anything a chat encourages people to visit a site more and also gives them ideas for new topics.

The higher-ups have been okay with the idea for a while now but it still has yet to be implemented.

IIRC the mods/admin are also concerned with the ability to effectively moderate a chat feature - we previously had a "chat thread" that was active for quite a while . . .

Yeah, I had suggested that we could use the Tezuka in English channel, where I'm an op and connected 24/7. Plus with how small the community is, why not share a chatroom instead of having 2 dead ones?

All it would take is to make a link to this that opens in a new window.
