Atom's Parents

Postby Earthshine » 12 years ago

Atom has had some wide variety of parental guidance throughout his incarnations, but which parents do you like the best? Do you like his robot parents built for him by Dr. Ochanomizu, Dr. Tenma (however briefly) or do you prefer Dr. Ochanomizu?

I personally like Dr. Ochanomizu and never much liked the robotic parents, I always thought "why does he need these two?" while reading/watching Astro Boy.

Honestly, I like O'Shay being his parental figure the best out of all of these options. He's a good enough role model of a parent, that Astro needing robot parents is not necessary. At least that's my take on it.

I think that the "reformed" Tenma in the movie will be a good parent for Astro (maybe he'll remarry) but unless there's a sequel we will never know. Some fan fictions have explored this.

Sorry. I didn't like Atom's parents. Did they even have NAMES? Did they have jobs? And if they did, what did they do? Were their jobs just to be Atom's parents?? All I ever saw them do was sit around the house. And I think it's nice that Atom had them and all, and I'm glad it made him happy, but jeez, whos paying for them and that house? Taxpayers? Am I picking this apart too much? Yes! I am!

@dragonpawclaws - DITTO. Couldn't have said it better.

I especially did not like how they were portrayed in the 1980's version - where they were behind Atom in school. TOOOO freaking weird for me

I wonder if they felt Ochanomizu "couldn't" be a "single father" or it would look like he was a pedo or something  . What ever . . . they just didn't work. I LOVED the additional siblings (Cobalt and Chi-tan), but the parent-bots just weren't well thought out, me thinks. :p

His parents were behind him in school in the Manga as well. His mother at least was in the image of his "real" mother.

Maybe in future incarnations, he can have good robotic parents, with jobs and educations- and that are actually older than him! :p

I'm not sure what you guys mean by "behind Atom in school," but I wasn't a big fan of Astro's parents either. I much prefer seeing how Astro grows in his relationship with Dr. O. I understand why he would want them though.

"Behind him in school" means that they're, well, behind him in school! :p In the 80's version, they were behind Atom by a couple of grades in their education: Atom was a third grader, while his parents (or his father, at least) were first graders. Now do you see?

Oh duh.
I though you guys meant like literally behind his physical body in school. Sorry. Just my average everyday derpiness.
