New hope for mobile A.I. units?

Postby Robin » 12 years ago

New hope for micro computers that can run a A.I. that will fit into Astroboys scull! Everyone take a look at the New Mac-Pro!

New Mac Pro

Capable of more than 7 Teraflops on the graphics alone! I could fit into Astros head and when you consider the raw power, I have little doubt that system could handle a A.I. if one existed with no problem...

I saw a few articles on the new Mac already. It will be a killer graphics computer, probably will be snatched up by all the CGI houses. A Beowulf cluster of those things would be AWESOME! Somehow, I don't think you're going to be lucky enough to get one for your next birthday present, unless your or your parents win the lottery. That thing is going to be EXPENSIVE!

One of these days I'd love to get myself a 4K large screen monitor (or two). I may HAVE to the way I'm getting farsighted.

It's not THAT small (for a desktop maybe). There are special purpose industrial/military computers much smaller with more power. But don't ask what they cost!
I wonder what it would cost me to build a desktop like that from parts? Intel Xeon E7-8870 cpu(s) (10 core / 20 thread 2.4 GHZ)?

They crammed a full sized Full-range ATX system into something smaller than a micro-ATX... Its SMALL for a something of its power... trust me..

Just to give you an Idea how small it is...

 I thought you meant real AI units; DARPA is having a competition for a robot that can best meet certain requirements. Sorry for the off-topic.

Wonder if the power supply is built in? The photos I saw didn't have anything included to give an idea of scale, but I though it was a bit bigger than that. Still at half the height of the full size tower, it is small in volume. Apple is returning to the NEXT cube idea, or so it seems.

Exactly. Now you see why I find it amazing? That much power in a package that can fit inside your head?

Actually Atom's "brain" isn't located inside his head. It's inside his body. (he's 'lost' his head a few times and it didn't seem to matter. He even once said it was only for 'decoration'!)
If you think about it, a robot's head would only contain sensor 'organs'. Don't limit yourself to 'Human' anatomy when designing an android. The external appearance need be similar only to satisfy the desire to make the 'bot indistinguishable from a real person, but the 'insides' can be whatever are required to do the job, and don't need to be constructed identical to a flesh and blood person.
The Atom in my story has his computer 'main frame' within his torso.

Is it really? I always thought he was more like data from Star Trek...
