what do think of this story idea?
Anybody here fans of the Eureka tv show? I'm working on a story idea for an Astro - Eureka crossover.

Here's a workup of the first chapter. This should give you an idea of what I have in mind.
Eureka Moment
Chapter one
Sheriff Jack Carter felt his BlackBerry phone vibrate in his pocket, and then heard the distinctive ring tone for an incoming text message. He pulled the phone from his pocket and opened the communication. It was from Dr. Douglas Fargo, head of the General Dynamics companies section located in Eureka. The message was simple. “Need U in my office, now.”
The walk from the company cafeteria where Carter was enjoying a late morning cup of Java wasn't far from Dr. Fargo's office so Jack just picked up the disposable cup and drank the remains of the coffee while he walked. Fargo had been made head of G.D. in Eureka following a strange time warp that had involved himself and several of his close G.D. associates, including Jo Lupo, Dr. Henry Deacon, and Dr. Allison Blake. If a time paradox could happen anywhere, it would almost be expected in Eureka.
Carter pushed the door to Douglas's office open a crack to see that the Dr. had a guest in his office. Fargo and the other man were standing in front of his desk, having a friendly discussion. The other man was better than a head taller than Dr. Fargo, well over six feet in fact. He was well dressed in a neatly pressed suit, and well groomed. He had a full head of dark black hair, a matching beard, and a prominent roman nose.
Dr. Fargo noticed Jack standing in the door way and motioned for him to enter. “Come in Jack, there's someone I need you to meet.”
Jack entered the office, and then noticed the young boy sitting quietly in a chair right in front of Fargo's desk. The lad looked around ten to twelve years of age, and about four to four and a half feet in height. He had the same dark hair color as his dad (Carter assumed that the boy was the man's son). The kid's hair was well combed with two spikes sticking up in the back of his head, both held in place by lots of hair gel and spray. The boy was fidgeting as he sat, and was eyeing some “toys” sitting on Douglas's desk.
“Jack, this is Dr. Taro Uma Tenma, formally of the Japanese Science Institute. Dr. Tenma will be joining our staff here at G.D., and he'll be the new head of our Robotics group. I've just been explaining to him about the companies benefits and housing plan. He'll be living in the house formally occupied by Dr. Stark. I was going to run him over there, but I've just found out I have a high level meeting with the General in a half hour, so would you and Andy mind running him over?”
“No problem, Dr. Fargo,” Carter smiled.
“Oh where are my manors?” Fargo said. “This is Dr. Tenma's son, Tobio.”
The boy had given in to temptation and had grabbed the remote control for Fargo's quad copter and had started it up. The flying model was now buzzing about the office. It seemed that Tobio had the machine under control, but his father had just noticed him playing with it and yelled at him.
“TOBIO, PUT THAT DOWN!”
The boy was startled by his dad's outburst and lost control of the model 'copter. The miniature flying machine crashed into the glass shelves on the rear wall of the office and knocked down the miniature figurines that had been sitting there.
Fargo flinched, but didn't loose his cool. He picked up the model quad-copter and handed it to the boy, after picking up the remote control from the floor. He handed that to Dr. Tenma.
“You seem to have better mastery of that toy than I do, why don't you keep it, Tobio?”, Douglas told him.
Carter's robotic deputy, Andy, was waiting in the Jeep outside of G.D. H.Q. Dr. Tenma and Tobio got in the back seat, and Carter sat next to Andy in the driver's seat. Andy turned around to face their guests and said hello. He smiled at Tobio.
The boy's face suddenly lit up and with a big grin he said, “Hey You're a Robot, Just like ...”
“TOBIO!”, Dr. Tenma interrupted him.
“That's quite alright,” Andy said. “I took no offense in the boy's pointing out the obvious, although I must say, the kid is quite bright and observant to have noticed so quickly.”
Andy put the Jeep in gear and they headed off to show Dr. Tenma and son where they would be living.

I can't even allow myself to read that. I've never watched Eureka, I've barely even heard of it, and I don't know what it's about, so I wouldn't even be able to enjoy it.
Granted, I had a similar problem with Dan Rush's latest story, but I had a good form of motivation to allow me to forge on with it just the same.

I got involved enough with Dan's story to actually go and borrow the DVD of Dante's Peak from the Library. It was a good movie, but Dan's story is hardly a cross over with it. In fact, only two or three of the characters from the movie appear in his story, and then only in minor supporting roles. So his fan fiction stands on it's own as a pure Astro FF IMHO. (He does bring in almost EVERY robot in creation from Tezuka's world, plus some from Futurama).
If your curious, there are some episodes of Eureka you could watch on free hulu or on the Sci Fi channel's website, plus there are a few wiki's on line that describe the show and the characters.
......
Hey, it's a small town in the middle of nowhere Oregon, populated by Geniuses who work at a company called General Dynamics. Even the guy running the town Cafe has a PHD.
The place was founded in the late 40's by President Roosevelt and Albert Einstein.
Lot's of weird stuff happens there as strange inventions run amuck.

"Little Brown Fox" wrote:Oooh... now that sounds familiar... may have seen some ads for it on network television, when the show first came out.
Now drop Dr. Tenma into the middle of that place as a new hire, and he has his 'son' Tobio in tow when he arrives.......

I plan on fleshing this out a bit more and getting it up on FF.NET eventually.
I have my own ideas about Tenma. He's not an abusive father, but he's not the most attentive either, a rather absent minded person at times. He wants Tobio to fit in, and prefers the boy think of himself as a human rather than a robot; but that's rather hard to do when you have the strength of 100,000 Hp and can fly like superman. (Still Clark Kent managed to lead a dual life, most of the time....)
