Yes, but at little else.
You know stupid cartoons like this gave me the wrong idea as a kid of what Japanese people looked like. I didn't realize that until I finally saw some photos of some famous people from that country.

That's one of my favorite episodes of Freakazoid, season 2 episode 5: "Hero Boy." It's definitely a jab at Astro Boy, but loose enough to apply to old anime in general (This was, of course, before the huge anime boom in the US.) Definitely an affectionate parody, though. Probably from people who remembered the show fondly.
Baby, don't let it slip, it's a once in a lifetime ship and it's never gonna come again...

If I only had been able to recall the word caricature when writing my last post-- Anyway, if you don't like that, you really would be offended by some of the 1940s Looney Toons. The same thing could be said of the way blacks were depicted. Irish were made to resemble apes. I think people today are a bit too easily offended; just my opinion, mind you.

I didn't mean to say that I was I was offended by that cartoon. I meant that as a kid, I probably didn't realize that the characters were drawn as caricatures, and I might have taken their appearances literally
It is true that American cartoons from the 40's were the same way. But you know, the creators of Betty Boop were Jewish, and they made fun of Jews as often as blacks in their cartoons. (Betty Boop "Ups and Downs").

Well, as a kid I KNEW people came in different "colors".
1: Black : Negro
2: Yellow : Asian (Chinese/Japanese)
3: Red : Native Americans ("Indians", blame that on all the Cowboy/Western movies.)
4: White : European (where most Americans come from)
I don't think I wondered why people didn't come in green or blue. Besides Green people were from MARS and BLUE people were from Venus!

The worst cartoon I can recall is GROOVIE GOOLIES. It has about 5 whole minutes of unique animation in its episodes.
Much of it is the songs, & each one has about 20 to 30 seconds of lyrics, but these are repeated enough to make 2 to 3 minute songs. There are some unique animations for these songs, but these also are very short & frequently repeated. Most of it is Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, Wolfman, & the Mummy playing their instruments. These clips were used far more often than Tezuka ever dreamed of using his BANK SYSTEM.
The Laugh-In ripoff portion was probably likewise reused. I borrowed the 1st DVD from NF, & reached those conclusions immediately.
I have not borrowed the Sabrina the Teenaged Witch DVDs; that series was a spinoff of Sabrina, & they may have similar features. I hated Archie, from which Sabrina is a spinoff. :d evil: I cannot recall why. During the early 1970s, there were some really awful kids' programs. One that may have been inspired by Goolies was The Monster Squad; it featured the same 4 monsters, or, at least 3 of them; though it was live-action.
Waldo Kitty (pun on Walter Mitty?) was one of them. This yellow tabby was a coward, as was Mitty. Both were day dreamers. If this was an after school special, it would have been better, but, as a series, it lost any shred of originality almost immediately.
Some of these shows were little more than bright colors, goofy voices, and silly faces.
