The series did have a sequence that I think is important to keep intact, yet, for the earlier episodes, the order does not seem too important. The only exceptions that come to mind, are the episodes in which characters are introduced. As I recall, the 2003 English Dub of Mighty Atom, Astro Boy, had at least 1 instance of a character being 'introduced' after already being presumed a regular character; though I cannot recall details. Like that series, Ribon no Kishi's final 10 or 12 episodes involve a continuing conflict between everyone against Empire X.

The overall story of Sapphire is comparable to the manga, except for this latter part. I think the variation is a good thing.

Here is the sequence:

 • 16 - 17, GOODBYE GHOST
 • 17 - 15, Golden Fox Hunting
 • 18 - 35, Follow the Airship!
 • 19 - 32,Sapphire's Treasure
 • 20 - 21,The Best Snack in the World
Of these, I do not think any are related to the final conflict mentioned in my last post.

GOODBYE GHOST: This is about an earthbound spirit that, because she was evil in life, cannot ascend to Heaven. There are numerous stories about such spirits, the yellow text indicates that it is taken directly from my notes:

Topper (1937) & its sequels tells of spirits stranded on earth because they need to perform good deed.

Triton, 9, The mystery of a phantom ship has a similar theme.

Mahoromatic #5 “8 of 634 Is Doing Well” features a HS student who is likewise stuck, who became one of several school myths that Mahoro & friends investigated.

Urusei Yatsura TV “Darling, I Love Your Kindness” Also deal with Jibakurei (Earthbound spirits stuck in specific places), who must fulfill vows before rising to Heaven.

http://www.asphodelshaven.com/translations/glossary.php?g=jibakurei

Likewise, Ranma 1/2 144. Season 7, Ep 8: Run Away With Me, Ranma!

Girls Bravo, episode 10 Bravo at the Hot Springs also features an earthbound spirit. A young lady was molested at a hot spring, and now her spirit haunts the place. Once she, with human help, reenacts the event, she is able to ascend.

In this case, both Sapphire & Nylon, attempt to persuade the ghost to do a good deed, so she can ascend; yet, Nylon's idea of a good deed is to help him prove Sapphire is a female, while Sapphire has no ulterior motive.
I noted 2 frames cut from the ELV.

Golden Fox Hunting:Sapphire discovers a female fox whose attempt to find food for her kits gets her caught by Nylon, & Co. DD wants Plastic to kill her, but the boy has no heart for it. Anyway, the fox becomes involved in another attempt to expose Sapphire as a girl; BTW, she speaks human languages. So, the poor fox is caught between both Sapphire & DD, neither of which has any empathy for her until much later. From my notes:

“ALL OF US KNOW ONE THING OKANMURI GESTURE] (http://www.astroboy-online.com/forums/showpost.php?p=213555&postcount=1), SHE’S THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD HAVE DONE THIS.”– NO REFERENCE TO ANGER!

that is what one of the soldiers says about the fox. :p .

Cuts: I noted 14 frames not found in the ELV; these involve the Royal hunt, during which 1 soldier has an unfortunate encounter with a wild boar; DD's imagining Sapphire being exposed as a girl, among which are Plastic's coronation, & Sapphire going to the guillotine. Also, Sapphire fighting a giant bear; these cut frames involve the sword piercing the bear, and such.

He wants to sell it to Silverland, & it is supposed to be a secret. Yet, while Sapphire is racing go-carts with the local hayseeds (who were properly introduced earlier in the correct sequence), Lamp hits one with his coach. Now, Sapphire follows him, & learns of the secrecy, & eventually, the airship. Strange, the cuts I noted were of the hick in bed with a bandage on one hand.
Sapphire's Treasure:Nylon finds a galley ship buried up to its mast; it is pure silver, & he covets it. I have no notes on the ELV.

The Best Snack in the World:DD has a loose-lips drug added to a cracker or cookie, which is delicious, & yummy, besides. Another plot to expose Sapphire as a girl.
Notes:
Enchanted Food

LOST THE END OF THE JIFS; TOO FEW; I could not track cuts.

So i went trough the first disc yesterday the acting/dub wasn't as horrible as i thought it was from a while ago but still not verry good, i almost think there is a diffrence with Princess Knight as they also called it and Choppy and the Princess sice the stuff i saw was called choppy and the princess and it was clearly more horribl then this so there must be a diffrence.
And about the editing of course your not gonna notice much because they worked it away what they din't want to show but when Saphire was in a fight in like episode 2 or something with a stronger enemy who clerarly wasn't beaten yet it seemed like he just went away for no reason i was like wtf is that.

But all with all it was still nice, still better to have this than nothing and having a version i can't understand completely that i din't even watched yet while owning it for a while now.

Disc 5

Postby jeffbert » 12 years ago

 • 21 - 20, Monster Kagera
 • 22 - 30, The Flying Mysterious Thief
 • 23 - 33, Phantom in the Pyramid
 • 24 - 34, The Giant Moose
 • 25 - 22, Coronation
 • 26 - 23, Ribon no Kishi Appears

Monster Kagera: Just as the local story teller finishes telling the origin of shadows, along comes a huge ugly creature that eats people's shadows. I do not know about the original dialogue, but the ELV has the doctor say:

“The same thing happened 500 years ago, & all of those children were found dead the next day."

This seems odd, seeing that so many frames of violence were cut from this version, & here is a man speaking about death. :hyo:

Another creature shows up, & later, Duralumin says the creatures eat only shadows of their own sex; and, as Sapphire oops, Prince Knight has gone off to slay the thing, hopes to prove PK is female.

The Flying Mysterious Thief: a thief flies on kites & steals only crowns, becuase he bears a grudge against all royalty. Cut from ELV: one frame (at least) that actually shows why the grudge was so extreme. It is in the visualization in which he explains it to PK.

W3 episode #8, Phantom of the Circus (July 25, 1965) had a motorcyclist/trapeze girl who was an assassin. This likely inspired this PK episode.

Phantom in the Pyramid: Egyptian, rather than Mexican. Sapphire is mistaken for a runaway slave girl, & taken to Egypt. She is apparently to be sacrificed to some deity, but that turns out to be a cover for selling the girls into slavery. Several frames were cut from the ELV.

The Giant Moose: Nylon is bragging of his martial prowess, & Sapphire makes light of it. She ends up being tricked into hunting a giant moose. All the animals that would normally follow her around & such, now flee from her in terror. a clip from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an exhibition plays, but I omitted noting when.

Coronation: The King suddenly disappears, & Sapphire is forced to take his place. The Queen is drugged during the ceremony, & blurts out the truth. Sapphire & the Queen are arrested. The Queen mentions that they had kept the truth a secret for 13 years.

Ribon no Kishi Appears: the 1st one that appears in proper order. The ELV calls this masked vigilante “the Phantom Knight.”

Tezuka's Homage to Disney: Sapphire defends two rats from the hunchback jailor, & in appreciation, the rat community bring her the costume & show her the secret passage out of the cell to freedom.

CUT FROM ELV: shows Sapphire lying on floor, men w/ whips idle in bg, sound of whipping heard. 577 – 580 (Sapphire sees that paper the rats brought her food upon was important doc!)

It seems that Sapphire is notably smaller once she is dressed in rags.

If you had the Italian boxset, it's pretty easy to use some apps to translate the subtitles. I seriously don't see any reason to get this release of Princess Knight with English dub only.

I just received box 2; still no documents. I did think the price was rather low for any such things to be included, though. I will look at this later this week.
