I couldn't understand a word of it -- but it seems Black Jack "saves" Tobio -- you see him as a baby -- here's another adorable shot (it's part of a movie Tenma is showing Black Jack):


Later you see him older, and in better health -- notice how much he looks like BOTH 2009 movie Astro/Toby and also Urasawa's interpretation of Atom/Tobio!! Seeing as how this was created in 1977 -- Dr. Tezuka would have "approved." Very, very interesting that both of these "looks" were followed quite closely in the 21st century images of Tobio/Astro.

Just found this old thread. Of course this episode is now subed on Viki and Anime Sols will have it soon, and Vertical has the Manga translated so we now know the story.


Take a close look at the mother. So we now know what side of the family Atom's cowlicks come from. Got to add that to my head canon.

Not a fan of the Tenma style used for that character. He seems to me like a...(I can't say that on here). Always wearing those sunglasses.
If anyone else likes it fine, but I was not to happy with that Black Jack episode.

I remember this episode from years ago and seeing the blatant parallels. It actually helped a small part of a fan-fic I worked on for maybe... 72 hours... in which I had Dr. Tenma and Suguru (the director) as brothers and Asuto was essentially Tobio's cousin. Now I guess this is more of a little head-canon than anything resembling a fan-fic as the file was trashed.
