I like Reno, but he actually usually isn't terribly minor whenever he appears. He's side character, yes; but he appears more than once, and often in relatively important roles. All the same, though, I'm rather fond of him.
Kenichi is also something of a side character, except that he does not seem to occupy important roles on his own throughout most of his appearances...
Thor is cute. I don't like that we don't know what ultimately happened to him at the end of that episode of the 80's series, though.
Rag is adorable, both in demeanor and appearance, and that is all there really is to say on the matter.
Lastly, Pero is a cute doggy, and I am sad that you never get to see him again in the manga series. The B&W anime series version of him doesn't do him justice, as far as looks go. He looks more like a collie to me, rather than a German Shepard, as seemingly portrayed by the anime (I never actually watched that episode; the very idea of that one scene makes me... uncomfortable).

Ah! There's another one! Rag! I also think he's adorable!

I also agree with you on Perro. He is a cute doggy, but you only see him in like, two episodes in the 1960s anime and once in the manga. Why does the episode make you feel uncomfortable? It's not like people actually tie dogs down and turn them into androids in real life. (Wait a minute, do they? lol. Just Kidding!)
But I guess when you think about it, it is kinda disturbing... They leave Dog skins lying on the ground. (Yuck! :sick

Well, they actually show them pinning down the dog, and I think maybe operating on it, whereas in the manga, you never actually see them turning the dogs into cyborgs; it was treated as secret up until the big reveal. This is why that particular episode of the show never made it to the US. Tezuka made a bit of a stink about it in one volume of the manga where he was introducing the story, comparing it to the horrible way we hunt and kill animals; but I think that he missed the point of usually, we don't display that kind of thing where children can easily see it, then or now. There were some violent cartoons, back in the day; but some of them predate this series, and anyways, the particularly gruesome bits of this series didn't really match up with the comparatively light-hearted tone that the animated series seemed to have.
Jeffbert could probably explain things better than I can, though. I'm probably wrong in most of my reasoning, anyway. And most of what I said was just opinion, not credible facts.

Ah! There's another one! Rag! I also think he's adorable! Though, the main part why I like him is because he stands up for himself and shows justice. I wonder why they call him "Rag". Sounds a bit silly.
If I remember correctly, in one of the incarnations of his story his creator claimed that Rag was his 'rag-doll'. He was a duplicate of his self after all intended to aid him and obey him in the event of his own election. Though I might be wrong.

No, that's about right. Though I think he wasn't called a "ragdoll" until the 80's series, where the story was slightly different (in the sense that Lord Deadcross actually had nothing to do with Rag's creation- though the subs say that his name is "Larg", and it certainly sounds like they are saying that...).

I watched the 1960s version, then I watched the 1980s version. There wasn't much difference in them, but yeah I think the guy who created him called him "Rag Doll". Rag for short. lol. No wonder why his name wasn't larg in the GBA game! (A lot of subs tend to mess up names sometimes. lol)

And I don't know if this counts as a side character, but Shunsaku Ban. I like how eccentric he is, and yet he's actually still pretty competent and reliable.
He is THE #1 actor / character in the entire body of Tezuka's comics; yet, with respect to MIGHTY ATOM, Shunsaku Ban / Higeoyaji is indeed a secondary one, though certainly not a minor one.

Not a minor character but still a very good character. You can tell that Tezuka had a lot of fondness for this character (if I remember correctly Ban was his first character he designed). I love that although Shunsaku was an older character he still had so much worth in the stories that he was in. I get tired seeing young characters all the time being portrayed as the only being capable of pulling anything remotely brave off or having worth; then comes along Shunsaku Ban. Tezuka's writing and gives me something worth reading and watching that's different from the mainstream thought process.
Shunsaku Ban is absolutely wonderful yes. Definitely one of my favorite Tezuka characters from across the board. vwv
I also like Tamao, Denkou, and True the lying robot from the 80s series. Funny enough, Tamao was actually my favorite character before I discovered Cobalt.
And I just really liked Denkou and True's stories a lot ok. Not to mention that '03 Denkou is an absolute cutie patootie. >w<
