What was the first Tezuka anime or manga (Besides Astro boy) you discovered?

Postby tailz » 11 years ago

For me, it was Black Jack. I first saw one of Tezuka's original art of it on the internet, and I was curious as to why it was soo popular,so I watched the 1st episode of the 2004 series on youtube (Wii) and I was like "It's alright". And that's how my Tezuka addiction officially started. :p

btw, I first noticed Black Jack last year during the summer.

Oh wow... I think mine was probably Legend of the Forest, that or the 1980s Astro Boy on VHS tapes. I really can't remember as I was 5.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about "Metropolis". That was really the first Tezuka anime I discovered as a kid. I remember my mother renting it for us from movie gallery. (Back when it still existed.) a long time ago when I was about 6 or 7. Though, since I didn't know who Osamu Tezuka was back then, I guess it doesn't count as an addiction phase. :D ! I was just into anime and manga a whole lot back then. I have a trailer of Metropolis and an Astro boy 2003 trailer on my Cyborg 009 DVD. (But yeah, that's about it. :p )

I'm thinking of looking it up again someday to find a site where I can watch Metropolis. maybe during spring sometime or over the summer when I have nothing else to do. (I'm mostly depending on youtube, cause I can watch it from my Wii.)

Metropolis won't disappoint. It's my favorite stand-alone anime film period.

I'm going to watch it again, cause my mind is very, very faint from the film cause I haven't seen it in like, years! (The last time I saw it was the day my mother rented the film from movie gallery when I was little.)

I don't know if this counts, but I remember over a decade ago that my mom said she watched Kimba the White Lion as a kid. So, in a way, that was the first non-Astro Boy Tezuka series that I discovered. I still have yet to watch or read any of it, though. I need to get around to that someday.

The first non-Astro Boy Tezuka anime that I watched was the OVA of Black Jack, which is still my favorite anime of Black Jack. That was about a year-and-a-half ago, I think.

I first saw the Jungle Emperor Leo movie, as I was interested to see the supposed inspiration to the Lion King. Then years later I watched Metropolis and that was what made me become a Tezuka fan. I had always known about the Astro Boy character but didn't consider watching or reading it until I saw Metropolis.

Well, it's true that the lion king is considered to be a rip off of Kimba, but I grew up around Disney and the Lion King, so I like it. :) I remember the days when I thought that Kimba was a rip off of the lion king. Until I noticed the date it was created in when I saw a trailer of it on a pokemon tape one day, then I was like, so... is the lion king a rip off of kimba?

I watched the Black Jack 2004 series first, I liked them. At first, I thought "Ehh.. it's okay." Then as I watched a couple more episodes I started to like it more and more. (When I first watched it, I didn't like Pinoko much at first, cause I thought she was annoying. But when I went further into the series, I got used to her and she became one of my favorite BJ characters.) And of course, I  Black Jack. XD!

The OVA's are pretty good, though it was hard for me to get past the 1st episode cause it was boring at first, but then it got good in the middle of it. There's a lot of nudity in it, but of course it's an OVA. (A lot of OVAs have nudity and stuff in it. That's why I mostly try to avoid them. But, since it was Black Jack and Tezuka, I watched it and I like them.) <<Besides, I've seen a lot worse stuff in other OVAs of other anime before. Plus, it doesn't really bother me much cause I'm a female. As long as they don't show naked guys, then I'm okay with it.

Considering something is a rip-off doesn't mean we can't like it either ;) It would just have been nice from Disney to admit at least some inspiration.
