Does anyone know what it takes to become a high school teacher in Japan?

Does anyone know what it takes to become a high school teacher in Japan?
Because one of my male characters in my manga is a teacher, and I'm trying to make him more realistic.
I joined this forum in late 2013 when I was 15 going on 16. Ignore my oldest posts, they embarrass me so much that I've considered permanantly leaving the forum more than once. I've grown out of my fangirling phase over Black Jack, Atom and Uran ages ago but the memories still embarrass me at times... 
Though, I try to be more open-minded about it and accept it as an "interesting stage of my life".

I would have merged this into your thread that focuses on all of your creative works but this conversation is more about academia in Japan than your story. So thus it can stay separate assuming that the topic stays on your original question 
To become a teacher in Japan (from what I remember) is not too different from America. They have to go to a university and submit to a background check. In Japan the students in High School stay in the same room while the teachers rotate (unless it's a special class such as gym or music and such). The teachers from what I know all have extensive education in the subjects that they teach, so a math teacher will have a math degree and so on.
But I could be wrong. I only know this sort of information because of my own experience with my Japanese teacher in high school and his own experiences.
On a separate note it's also incredibly difficult for a foreigner to get a job as a teacher in Japan, but not impossible.
