Crunchyrolls big mistake

Postby GreenDarthVader » 11 years ago

I'm sure this is old news to everyone, but they are making a new Astro Boy show: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/06/12-1/astro-boy-reboot-announced

However, in the article is says, "While Tezuka Pro continue to control the IP for TV anime's first hero, for the first time, producers of the new series have the right to create a completely new story."

I'm sorry, but that's a load of but bullets. Not only did the 2001 version have completely new stories (as well as some very loose retelling of classics, Epsilon I'm looking at you), but as this forum knows, there is also the Nigerian Astro boy.

Still, new Astro Boy fans are good Astro Boy fans. And there's probably going to be new merch if your into that.

Both the 2003 anime and Little Astro Boy were mostly produced by Tezuka Productions, they're talking about an outside party having control over a new story.

I suppose they don't count the movie because it still was based on Astro's manga origin story, despite some noticeable differences.

I find it more embarrassing that so many articles take Variety's false information of Little Astro Boy being "in development" and being "5-7 minute episodes." Talk about being misinformed and not doing proper research.
I'm on Twitter.

It could be worse, they could have pulled an LA Times "Nintendo's new playstation" http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-e3-2014-highlights-2-20140611-story.html

But thanks for the clarification, and the interesting point about the movie.
I had forgotten about that. Probably because I've blocked it out of my mind. Thanks for reopening the wound. (And yes, I know that many people on here greatly enjoyed the movie. That's fine, more power to ya.)
