Next project announcement next week! Well, it says "week after next" but that might be a mistake, considering this tweet.

Just to recap the deluge of good Tezuka news lately:

  • Anime Sols comes back from the dead
  • Captain Ken gets kickstarted
  • First digital-exclusive titles come out in ~2 weeks: Brave Dan, Mr. Cactus and Clockwork Apple, plus the announcement of the next 10 titles.
  • Buddha 2 comes out on Blu-ray in Japan on August 8th
  • First teaser for French Astro Boy reboot in September
  • Live action Dororo from Justin Lin’s studio should start shooting this year (old news, but we're getting closer)

So the ANNCast was kind of really good. 9 titles total from studios Tezuka, Tatsunoko and Pierrot (1 or 2 from Pierrot) are going to have their first three episodes put up on the site soon. For the first time it will not only be possible to pledge for DVDs, but also simply to have more episodes translated and streamed.

Sam already revealed two of the Tezuka titles, and they're huge. We'll be getting Dororo and Wonder 3 in a couple weeks.

This part of the podcast should also be interesting if you have hopes for the 60's Astro Boy series:

I mentioned we were going to do Dororo and Wonder 3 for example. Those shows are actually not animated by Tezuka Productions. They're animated by Mushi Productions, the original animation studio that Tezuka worked with before he founded Tezuka Productions. And so we weren't able to access those shows when Anime Sols started, but Tezuka Productions has worked up a deal with Mushi Productions to handle their older titles as well so we now have access to most of the older, really classic Tezuka titles. So we'll see how Dororo, etc. does and see if it's possible to put those out. But those are black and white, real classic Japanese animation and we're very curious to see what the reaction is to them.

Everyone, go and contribute 5 bucks (or more ;) ) to Dororo! Just dooooo it.

Turns out this is the only one of 2-3 new Tezuka shows they were supposed to upload today. Maybe they'll wait for it to reach its goal before putting in more? All the more reason to hurry up! Go, go, go!

Thank you!

About 400 people (from the US or Canada) to go. I hoped this would be going faster... This is the best thing Anime Sols has had so far.

If they offered some tangible reward, even if some cheap figure badge it might attract some more response than a thank you email or your name in the credits. Actually if it gets down to the wire with just a bit more needed to go over the top, I would consider bumping up another $40.
