That doesn't sound right.

Try this:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

also maybe
sudo chmod 660 /dev/sr0; chgrp cdrom /dev/sr0

Selecting previously unselected package libdvdcss2.
(Reading database ... 495163 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../dvdcss-Uit7fM/libdvdcss.deb ...
Unpacking libdvdcss2 (1.2.13-0) ...
Setting up libdvdcss2 (1.2.13-0) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-0ubuntu6) ...

I did all of those three up there (not that "maybe" thing you provided, not yet). This was what I got after that last one. Is this good?

Oh, and my computer wants to do a security update now, too...

Sounds good. Security updates are a good idea. Should be able to play DVDs now.

Okay, will try. I hope I didn't screw anything up on the discs themselves last night, though.

Not unless you badly scratched them.

Oh pffft, like that's likely. I'm almost paranoid when it comes to handling discs.

... Still, it might not be a bad idea to check them over and make sure that the disc drive didn't hurt them in some way, just to be sure, before I try again. But I was concerned about coding or something; I am not very educated in these matters and thus like things to go as simply as possible, while worrying if something doesn't seem right (not that I'd even know).

Er, it already seems to be working. At least, VLC will comply. SMPlayer still does not seem to want to play my DVDs. Which is fine, I guess, only... I'm more used to SMPlayer. And, VLC's visual quality seems to be questionable, and I don't know how to fix it. :T

I don't know what any of those are; I've given up on it for now. I really wanted it to work on SMPlayer; it has high video quality and it's what I've grown used to. Besides, by all rights it should be able to handle DVDs...

Anyways, there was another program- actually two of them- that I wanted to see about. There's this thing called FreePiano, which keeps saying something about failure to initialize fonts or something, that I wanted to try to get to work; and then there's a Linux-compatible program, called Aria-something or something-Aria, or something like that, that I don't know how to install, because Linux has a tendency to be overly complicated like, 90% of the time. I'll need to download another thing to get it to work, but that should be easy enough- for Linux, it requires something called FluidSynth, I think. Something like that. :T

I'm sorry for being so non-specific; I really cannot remember these things, and preoccupied as I am, I simply cannot be bothered to just go and check. (Blame Homestuck.)
