Sadly I have not been able to contribute to Anime Sols since the first push for Black Jack due to life-stuff (I'm a college student and now am planning a wedding).

I'm sure there are plenty of people who do have a $10 or $5 to pledge but would rather not if it's just to support a stream release.

But without this happening first, then a DVD release won't happen... and maybe even more importantly, another Tezuka show can't happen on the site. The only exceptions that could potentially still happen are if they were already officially translated, such as the Black Jack OVAs, the 1980's Astro Boy, or Little Astro Boy. But everything else is just stuck in the vault until Dororo gets funded.

Also, have I mentioned that Dororo is freaking awesome? That the anime adaptation couldn't be funded in a single day just boggles my mind.

EDIT: Here are the other shows from Mushi/Tezuka. Any one of these could replace Dororo or Wonder 3 or Goku's Grand Adventure as soon as they get funded. Obviously, Dororo has the most chances of making it first.

  • Astro Boy (1963)
  • Astro Boy (1960’s theater version)
  • Kimba (1965) Japanese version
  • Kimba (1960’s theater version)
  • Leo the Lion Japanese version
  • New Adventures of Kimba (1989)
  • Princess Knight Japanese version
  • Vampires
  • Animerama movies (A Thousand & One Nights, Cleopatra… ;)
  • New Treasure Island
  • Marvelous Melmo
  • Don Dracula
  • The Three-Eyed One
  • Tezuka Lion Book Series
  • My Son-Goku movie
  • Ambassador Magma
  • Wonder Beat Scramble
  • The Adventures of the Polar Cubs

As I've said before . . . THEY SHOULD DO ASTRO FIRST!!!

An idea - why don't they TAKE A SURVEY of how many would fund Astro Boy . . . I'll bet the result would be VERY DIFFERENT.

Atoman 1st introduced me to J-language anime, & he had tons of stuff. Not just Dororo & other Tezuka DVDs, but a similar series called Sasuke. Sasuke is a little ninja boy whose mother is murdered by a rival ninja clan. His papa is a seldom seen guy, but he goes searching for a new wife, while S goes looking for a new mother.

The violence is extreme & graphic. Though this series has no supernatural elements- at least none that I recall- the Ninja have various 'powers,' probably all are well-known Ninja tricks or such. I think this one is also 26 or 27 episodes, but in color.

BTW, Dororo pilot is color.

I love Sanpei Shirato's Sasuke! I'll admit that I've downloaded scans of the entire manga, in Japanese. Daisuki had a survey of anime titles that people wanted to see and Sasuke was on it, but I'm sure it mustn't have gotten many votes.

Also, another take on the same character but by Tezuka, there is I Am Sarutobi!, one of my favorite manga.

 My regret that I never learned any foreign languages, though French was among those taught in Elementary school! My opinion at the time, was that these classes were just more torture on little kids. Bad enough, we had to learn our own language, though we already spoke it!

I suppose I could get some understanding from this translation, as I have watched French language (w/ English subs) films on TCM, but buying from Amazon.fr, how I dread managing even 1 more PW!

As French books usually are, it's also on Amazon.ca. I think Amazon accounts may be linked together.

I just now looked at the text describing this book, & realized the big difference between spoken & written French! :D I recognized only about 3 words in the whole paragraph.

I've been watching the Wonder 3 videos posted up on Anime Sols. This show was supposed to have been dubbed into English and shown on American TV about the time that Astro Boy was running, but I don't remember ever seeing it. The films and-or tapes of the show were lost after their run, but there are rumors that copies might still exist in Australia where the show also ran. Some pirated copies of the English language dub DO exist on early pre-betamax VCR format tapes.

It's interesting to see that a few of Tezuka's star system characters are in this dub, such as Boon. I noticed that the boy, Shinichi has four narrow hair spikes set it pairs at about the same angle on his head as Astro's! Now I know where that stupid talking duck that appeared in the same AB episode from the 80 series as Black Jack came from!
