Did you build that scope, or buy it used?
I build a few Heathkit's in my time, including an SB102 ham transceiver and a 21" color TV set.

@ tetsuwan penguin
no I did not build it, I have been inside it trying to fix it but I didn't build it, got it at value village for $44

I have googled all over the place looking for the assembly manual for it but I can only find the schematic, I suspect it may not be put together quite right in some places.

@ jeffbirt
and the pwm output from your UPS would be run into the output transformer and would come out as a sign wave, a really nice one too.

There used to be a site that had Heath manuals to download, but some troll threatened them with copyright infringement (even though he didn't really own the copyrights to the manuals) and they took them down. I think it was on BAMA.

The IO-14 was probably the best tube type scope that Heathkit ever made. It is really close to some of the early TEK tube type scopes in performance and feature with a 3db bandwidth of at least 8mhz, probably usable up to 10mhz or so. It was DC coupled, something rare in kit tube type scopes. I don't think they every made another similar model, having started selling solid state scopes (except for the CRT) soon after that model came out.

BTW, someone currently is selling an IO-14 'parts' unit on E-bay right now. If you can pick it up cheap, you should because if any of the hard to get parts on yours die you'll have a hard time replacing them (xformers, etc). That's a real nice classic scope, and yours looks VERY clean!

I'm happy with my TEK 465, one of these days I want to find the cover for it!
