They haven't been announced yet. I'm thinking of writing to Tezuka Productions and asking about the DVD/bluray release.

There's been no news of a DVD/Blu-ray release for Little Astro Boy. While it's not out of the realm of possibility that Tezuka Productions would consider releasing a DVD/Blu-ray, it's very unlikely at this point. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

However, that wouldn't hurt for you to write to Tezuka Productions and ask them about it, Fauna. Maybe we can hear from the horse's mouth whether or not we'll ever see Little Astro Boy again.

According to Japanese news site, The Japan News by The Yomiuri Shimbun, we have not seen the last of Little Astro Boy! The article refers to Little Astro Boy as "Robot Atom" (ろぼっとアトム ;) , which is the Japanese name for Little Astro Boy, and mainly focuses on the creation of Little Astro Boy along with Tezuka referring to manga and anime as being "the Esperanto of the world."

They returned to their country, and in March this year, a remake of “Tetsuwan Atomu” (also known as “Astro Boy” ;) began its broadcast run throughout Nigeria. Titled “Robot Atom,” the series is aimed at preschoolers, so the main character Atom is shown at a younger age than that of his Japanese counterpart. As the remake version is not clearly set in a specific location or era, it is ready for broadcast in other countries in the future.

I'm not sure how the localization process works in the US (all I know is that it's garbage), but the fact that the show is already in English raises the chances of it being brought over. I don't know what channel would pick it up (Disney has a block for younger kids, but Disney buying rights to Astro Boy would be big news), since in previous years the only channels to broadcast Astro Boy were the WB (rip) and Cartoon Network, which are not aimed at young children. NBC doesn't even count. The only other channel I can think of would be Nickelodeon, but that still seems unlikely... God forbid Little Astro Boy be picked up by some unknown channel like Koolopolis.

I guess I'm just rambling. Let's just hope we can see Little Astro Boy in the US!

It was one year ago today that Little Astro Boy was announced. Time sure flies, doesn't it?

Hopefully we'll see this show get localized somewhere outside of Nigeria this year.
