The Birth of Neo Astro Boy, known in Japan as ネオアトム誕生 (The Birth of Neo Atom), is a 3D short film being shown at Expo 2025, a world expo in Osaka taking place from April 13, 2025 to October 13, 2025. The film is being shown in the Pasona Natureverse exhibit at Expo 2025.
There is also an additional short film being shown in the Pasona Natureverse pavilion tour video at the 6:35 mark.
Neo Astro (Neo Atom) is based on Astro’s design from the 1972 Astro Boy manga「アトム還る」(“Atom Returns”).
Story summary of The Birth of Neo Astro Boy:
In the newly released “The Birth of Neo Atom,” a space colony where many people live begins to head toward the sun due to an AI malfunction. In order to avoid a crisis that threatens humanity due to the colony colliding with the sun, Atom must stand up to stop the colony from going out of control. Atom succeeds in destroying the colony, but his body cannot withstand the impact of the explosion… Many years later, Atom is saved by Black Jack and wakes up again in this world. It is a completely original story created by Tezuka Productions. The story of the birth of Neo Atom, which will be shown exclusively at this pavilion, can be experienced in a powerful full 3D animation.
About Pasona Natureverse:
Based on the concept of “Thank You, Life”, PASONA NATUREVERSE will feature a variety of exhibits under the theme of “Body, Mind, and Bonds” including state-of-the-art technologies such as iPS cell-derived myocardial sheets that restore the heart, a symbol of life.
Astro Boy will act as the pavilion’s overall navigator, while Black Jack will introduce future medicine, human- and environment-friendly food, and more. Join them to learn about the history of life and experience the wisdom of mankind and the design of future society.
