Danny wrote:Same thing happened with me. I never realised Astro (we are taling the Oz version here, so it was less cut than the canadian version) was so badly treaded by the english translators. It is not an uncommon practice however. Some of he most popular dubbed anime in the west is badly edited. Shows that spring to mind are Battle of the Planets / G-Force / Eagle Riders (all verious incarations of Gatchaman), Robotech (A butcherd amalgamation of three different shows, Marcoss, Mospadea, Southern Cross), Sailor Moon (which was an edited version of only the first two series of the show which went for 5 seasons), Cardcaptors (Cardcaptor Sakura), as wel as countless other shows that don't matter anyway.. like DBZ, One Piece etc.. but no one cares about them anyway :P

Nor I, and no, it's not an uncommon practice is it? >.o You'd think they would spend the money to hire better actors, I could probably do a better dub job myself =P

The thing is that a LOT of those shows I loved when I saw them, so I can not help but feel somehow "played" by the companies that did them. How much was I missing in thse shows I loved? Why was I not allowed to see them in their propper versions? Who made this decision for me? etc.

Yeah, I can understand that, I can't help but feel a like I was being insincere when I said I liked certain shows when I hear something like that o_o

Fortunately most of these shows are now available on DVD in their original format.. so as soon as finances allow, I will be buying them so I can enjoy them in thier "pure" form.

Yeah, that's always nice ^_^ DVD in a sense has opened the way to another culture =)

Right! :) The French version is available in France and I'm still wondering if I should buy it... but then it's not exactly the version I saw... but it's the episodes that really matter... but... what should I do, arrrrrrgh?

If I weren't an Astroboy fan, I'd probably say Just buy both versions, but I can understand how this would be hard ._. Maybe ask the companies to release an extra disc that have the missing episodes, I'm pretty sure these guys take suggestions :)

What do you mean? They have all the episodes in the French release, except the first two that were merged in one, just like on most (all?) non Japanese versions.

I already own the Australian release (which has the missing episodes) and the American release (which doesn't, but has a few other scenes). It's just that the French release isn't exactly the same (different singers, difference voices in the games and such). It matters because if I buy it, it's for the nostalgia factor. And I still have hopes it will come out here one day.

Oh, sorry ^-^ What I meant was you could ask the french company that released the French DVD to sell the first two episodes as well, only applied to the french audience(the voices, the music, things like that)

Anyway, I see, the French one was the one you grew up with, the other ones are unfamiliar to you, you don't want everything to be all different, I understand ^_^

They could have done that I guess (add the first two episodes), but some people asked them before the release and they didn't, so it will never be done. It doesn't really matter to me as I own the Japanese versions and I doubt they could make a dub with the same actors. :(

Hi everyone.

I'm new here, and I want to say THANK YOU.

I've been searching the internet for like almost an hour now, looking for that friggin supercomputer. I wanted to make reference to it elsewhere, and went looking for the things' name.

I'm in Canada. It makes SO much sense now. They edited it heavily, and needed to fill time. So they made up this game.

How it went was, at the end, Astro would file a report to the computer about everything he did that episode. I think Geronimo is right. Then a narrator would say, that just for fun, Astro made one mistake in his report, can you find it? Or something like that. What a clever way to fill time with reused footage, all they had to do was give the voice actor a few more lines. man.

But they never gave the answers! haha

I'm so glad I don't speak Japanese, because I would probably be horrified at how they've translated stuff into English.

Anyways, thanks so much. I can sleep now. :)
