What was the B-movie that...

Postby jeffbert » 19 years ago

What was the B-movie that had a Noah's Ark-type rocket in which young adults escaped the doomed earth? I remember an old guy in a wheelchair, who financed the rocket, but who was left behind anyway, another old guy saying something like:

the future belongs to the young, let us stay here & die with the Earth. :hyo:

& dragging him away from the rocket.

I think I know the one you mean. Was the earth doomed because a planet was going to pass really close and cause terrible gravitational damage?
I remember some kind of lottery for the tickets, and a kid selling newspapers saying "five days til doomsday!" And some guy went hysterical near the end so someone shot him and said "he was going to die anyway".
And when they arrived on the new planet, it looked like Earth with a weird colour filter. I remember seeing cacti.

Can't remember the name of the movie though. :(

Thanks. :) Was it really a B-movie? I thought it was old-fashioned but it didn't stike me as dismal.

There was another one I saw that I'm sure was from a similar era. There was a rocket in space carrying a whole lot of people, and on the lowest deck there was a monster. It started breaking up through the floors and picking people off.
By the time they realised what was happening, it was near the top and they killed it by putting on spacesuits and opening the airlock.

Gaaaah! I think I'll give it a miss, even if it doesn't star Tom Cruise. ;)

Thanks! That will help me write about #003, Adventure on Mars, that features a similar rocket also launched from a rail. :hyo:
