Screenshots of Tobio
astro_mcfly wrote:Wow, fafner, I drew two of those before! I'm assuming that those are from the Japanese version, no?
Chances are that I took them from the Japanese version. I usually take my screenshots from the Japanese version because of the cut scenes, to be sure I don't miss an interesting screenshot.
In case you didn't guess, the screenshots I posted are quite old already

Do you have the same problem with my FTP server? If it works, you can have a look at the episodes I have in the appropriate directories. If you want some of them, send me a PM and I will make them available to you. I don't let them available all the time because I had too much issues with people abusing the service, and bittorrent causes issues too because of instable servers

There are several 60s shots with Atom & Tobio together. These are from Mystery of the Metal men:
White is from the TOW site, while my notes are in yellow:
I had posted a few pics from this episode, but that was long ago, & from the VHS tape.

107th Episode: Release of the Earth
97
Mystery of the Metal Men February 13, 1965 January 4th - December 31st of 1966 of 1964 Saturday 19:00 - 19:30
Atom is involved in an explosion during the construction of a dam. The impact sends him into a parallel world where Tobio, the son of Dr. Tenma, never died in an accident that killed him in our world. In other words, it is a world where Atom has not been born.
The Metal men use humans as both ball & bat in a game of baseball.
Funny scene in which Atom refuels other robots.
Cobalt is suspiciously absent, suggesting that this episode was created much earlier than it was broadcast.
Urusei Yatsura TV ("those annoying aliens") disc 28 contains an episode called “Parallel Worlds! Where’s Darling?!” in which Lum finds herself in a world in which Darling never defeated her in the game of tag, and thus Earth has been dominated by her home planet, Oniboshi. Thus, the family of Darling, to whom she had been engaged in the real world, knew her as nothing but a nuisance in the parallel world. Upon finding the portal to another world, she quickly passes into it, only to find that in this world, she is married to Darling’s rival, Mendou. Then she comes to another world, in which all the males from her world are now females, while the females are males, despite their faces and physiques. Then she finds herself in a world in which Ataru actually openly expresses his affection for her.

Ohhh, those are awesome!!! You know, I have to say, the Tobio from the 80s show is my fave by far. He just seems the most cute and innocent, and AHHH! I just wanna hug the poor kid!!

Some of those shots I don't recognize- I have heard about the cut death-bed scene where Tobio's dying wish is for Tenma is to make his robot project in his image with his name (because I think Tobio knew he was going to die, even if Tenma didn't want to believe it), with all these super-powers... however, I don't recognize the shots with him and Jump, where they see that guy walking by with a suitcase, and Jump looks angry while Tobio looks alarmed. What was going on in that scene?

Skunk went to see Tenma to ask him to put the Omega factor in the robot he is trying to create, and Tenma refuses. Tobio is really listening to the conversation between Skunk and his father and not to his father on the phone, like in the cut version. When Skunk comes out of the room, he looks at Tobio and tells him his father is a fool (I don't remember what the exact word was, but that was the meaning anyway). Since Skunk gave Tobio a little bit of a threatening look (with his trademark huge smile), I guess Tobio got somewhat scared and Jump wanted to protect him.

Well, even in the Japanese version (w/English subtitles) on my DVDs- and yes, I know that it still remained horribly butchered), we overhear some guy talking to Tenma about how he's trying to make a robot with a soul, and that he failed yet again, etc... was that Skunk talking? Was that part of what he was actually saying to Tenma? It did sound like the voice was deliberately trying to intimdate him, so yeah.
And when we see Tobio run in his dad's office, that whole dialogue exchanged between them about his project to make a robot like a human, and making it into a boy robot... was that also accurately translated, or no? According to the English subtitles, that's what they were saying in Japanese also, just like the dubbed version.

Yes, that was Skunk talking. He suggested the Omega factor after making a little bit of fun about how embarrassing it was for a minister of science to fail like that.
As for your second question, I don't remember. I'll try to watch this part again, unless somebody else has an answer in the meantime.

SOrry about that! I was out of town for a few days. In the car, I decided to be crafty and make a plushie Jump, but it didn't work very well. I was confused on how to sew the pieces of fabric together to correctly form the shape of is head. I got the body done, but it's probably going to be headless for a while. Not only that, but first... I'm not good at sewing and second... I used the wrong color fabrics. Anyways...
I'm not sure if I have the right things on my computer to allow me to play those. That may be the problem. It wasn't working right.
I'll send you a PM after I finish typing this.
Well, well... I guessed there had to be something happening in that scene that I didn't see.
