Consoles generations is more about period than technology. Thus, any console created in 2006/2007 will be a "next generation" console, AKA 7th generation, so far it doesn't regress technologically of course.

Well, sorry to bring this topic back up, but I'd like to make an update!
The original release date announced was December 3rd, 2007 in the US. Now it has been pushed to February 10th, 2008.
I was planning on getting it for Christmas.... Now I'll just have to save up for it.... Good thing is that Sonic is now a playable character!
