Hi eveyone, thanks for the warm welcome.

Sparkx: no, I didn't get the name from the Pirates of the Caribbean, and I didn't even really clue into the fact that it was the name of the ship. But for my gf and my friend, it was the first thing they thought of, too.

Don't worry about the spelling, even I had to look up Caribbean.

Dictionary: http://www.m-w.com

I will say this though, since you're still young, I'd get to work on getting good at spelling and grammar. They are aquired skills, and have to be practiced. Almost everyone from about 5 years younger than me or so (I'm 27) is really, REALLY bad at spelling. Seriously, almost everyone. I don't know how they were taught, but it obviously was pretty crappy. I think they switched to some phonetics bs or something, whatever it was, it didn't work. I can't really say though, because language was always easy for me. My family is French Canadian, and we moved to an anglophone town when I was like five. So, I learned a new language right around the time that many of the systems in your brain are still being formed. They say you can only speak a language like a native speaker if you learn it before 4. Which is true, because I sometimes make little mistakes, saying things in a french rhythm. Doesn't happen often though. Anyways, rambling.

My point is you should get good at it now, because no matter what, people will judge you based on how you write and talk. Read more, people who don't read enough make really obvious mistakes when they try to write, because they write it out how it sounds. Language is just about rules, learn them. It's just a bunch of squiggles and grunts without rules. People are harsh, and they will assume you are stupid if you can't write properly. That's just how it is.

/end unsolicited advice. haha.

later.

I did not begin caring about grammar until about age 40. I took pleasure in using the worst grammar to PO my mom. Now I correct her grammar. :lol: Since then, I have acquired a formal writing style, by setting MS WORD to formal. It was a big pain in the you know where, but I finally began writing formally without much trouble. My biggest problem was recognising passive voice in my writing; however, once I applied myself to the task, it took everal years to do. Read, yes, but write even more.

BTW, it should be "younger than I" not "younger than me"
:D

Hahaha, but he said his first language was French... :p See the pattern there? :lol:

For your information, BlackPearl, I made a similar mistake just a few days ago, and I'm a French Canadian too, though if 5 years old is too late to speak like a native speaker, there is no way I'll ever come close! :cry: Still, I was among the worst ones when we started English classes at school, so I'm still happy with my progress! :D And I welcome corrections! :)

I have to say that I find it frustrating to be able to write with such ease and basically without any mistake in French, and then to be less then perfect in English even with the extra effort I put in when I write. *sigh*

haha, nice, you're right, it should be I, but only in a formal sense, like you said. Writing for an audience on a message board should be informal. In this vein, I often skip capitals and use words like "lemme know" and stuff like that.

Astro Forever: I know how you feel, but for me it's a bit the other way around. When we moved to the English town, we were far away from my parents' families. I never had any french peers, and the only french I spoke was at Christmas time visits and stuff. So, I can barely write in french, and when I speak french, I often wonder if I just "frenchified" an english word, or if that's really the word in french. today it was "phrase"

gotta go to a job interview, finish this later.

If it's alright, I'd like to stray off topic for a bit ^^;

But there is now an Article in Wikipedia about Geronimo from Astroboy :D No pictures though o_o...actually with Astro Forever's permission (or you can do it yourself, man ^^') It would be nice if I can put up the images you gave me =)

Anyway, the article is right here:

...Okay so I typed it ^^; If anyone things something should be added, or (I certainly hope not, that would be real embarassing :eek :) thinks that the article does a really big injustice, then you can let me know and I shall edit it ^_^;;

It's not like I own the rights to these pictures, so if you want to use them, as far as I'm concerned, there aren't any problems. Don't know if there's one when it comes to Wikipedia though... :unsure:
