Misconceptions you've had

Postby Astro Forever » 19 years ago

I just thought it might be funny to exchange them! :D

When I was a child, I remember wondering where was Syldavia and even trying to find it on a map.

I have had too many as a little kid. One being that Mickey Mouse was more magical then Santa Claus :p . That off course get's more complicated after that but in the end it does not matter.

Noooo! Impossible :D But it's true that she appears rather rarely in the games, often only at the end.
On another topic, I found out recently the Darth Vader was the evil one :p Oh, and that he was the father of... who was it again? Han Solo? Or Chewbacca?

Seriously, I learnt a decade ago that Washington was on the east coast, and not the west coast :d oh: But I was not completely wrong: the state of Washington is at the place where I thought the city of Washington DC was

Back when I didn't know that, I actually thought the state was where the city was! But I think I was still young when I made the distinction. However, I think it's only been a few years that I've known that the city of New York wasn't the capital of the state of New York (it's Albany, and by the way, I'm not American ;) ). I also had a very strange idea of where Greece was located up until a few years ago.

For anyone who would want to check if they have misconceptions about European geography, you may try this game (it's in German, but the cities' names are very similar to their English names).

Speaking of characters of fiction, I didn't know that some versions of the Bible said that Goliath had been knocked out by a stone, then that he had been beheaded by David. I had learned he had been killed by the stone. When I read the story, I thought whoever came up with the name "Goliath" for this character in Astroboy must have heard of it. I had thought he had been called Goliath only because he was huge, not because of his missing head.

Well, I've learnt two things today.

That's a cool game! I was out by a total of 16,950km. Oh well. And I always thought Budapest was in India. :d oh:

(7,920km on my second attempt)

But that's so far from your home that it's more than understandable. If you asked me what are the "states" (I don't even remember how you call them) of Australia, or even to locate Brisbane on a map....

It wouldn't be a good indication if I gave my total, because I've played that game so many times. Sometimes I even manage to be as close as 4km (I think I might even have had a hit once). The first time I played, I realized I had no clue about Denmark's location, I never thought Poland was so big, I put Moscow in the right country but waaaaaaay off, and I think I mixed countries like Belgium and Switzerland (sorry Strange Wings... ).
