I remember Speed Buggy, but it was not one that I bothered to watch. I was into comic books about 20 years ago, and the Transformers were just stating in comic form back then.

Kimba dates a good 15 years earlier, though, and B&W Astroboy was a few years earlier, still. I read that when Mushi studios went under, NBC was about to return the dubbed and edited films of Astroboy, but since Mushi was broke, burned them instead. Anyway, knowing that Kimba had to have come out before Mushi went bankrupt, I guess they ran during the same time. But, then again, I also read that NBC stopped buying Astroboy because it was B&W and violent. NBC had to send artists to Mushi to teach its artists to use color. They had originally thought that color would involve using the full spectrum of visible light, and based upon that, rejected it, as too complicated. The guys from NBC showed them how they could use only a few hues and shades but still produce a high-quality product. For if Mushi had not been able to make Leo (Kimba) in color, NBC would not have accepted it.

I think most of you other active members are too young to remember Speed Racer. :P

I may be only 20, but i've seen Speed Racer. I stay up late watching Cartoon Network alot. Did anyone see that Dexter's Labratory where they were doing Speed Racer? Right down to the lack of animation and acting ability? That was some funny stuff!

Mock 5 was, in my opinion, the best parody I have ever seen. It captured the essence of Speed Racer perfectly. Its only problem was that Dee Dee played both Racer D and the kid brother/sister. The funniest part was dad/pops hopping around while denying Speed/Dexter's request to participate in the race!

16.You worry about the safety of any child you meet named "Toby or Tobio".

:o OMG, As I read this it had just occured to me that my brother's son's name is Toby.
Fortunately I recently taped him a lot of Astroboy eps on VHS (including the first ep).
So my brother should be warned and stop his son from driving any robot-car which gets in his way.

I think he's 10 years old now, my brother really should keep an eye out on him ;) .

... Or by the name or Dr Boynton, or whatever name he chose this day :P
Maybe they all have different names so they can't be easily spotted :D

I would go nowhere near that position. Neither the so-called Battlebots nor any other similar competition uses anything other than remote-controlled vehicles equipped with wedges or weapons. I remember a story on the Twilight Zonein which Lee Marvin portrayed a boxer turned robot boxer's manager. As his robot was damaged, and he could not afford to withdraw from the fight, he took the robot's place (which was illegal, since humans were forbidden to fight).

Then, there was the one about the Zephers baseball team, & the android pitcher who did not have the heart to strike out those poor batters. :wahah:

The robotic grandma, also addressed issues. I see a new thread here, so, I will digress. :)
