It's best not to listen to them. *shrugs* The only thing I hate to hear is that "everybody" don't want anime in America. That makes no sense.

Also, this goes for "everyone" thinks cartoons are for kids. Not everyone thinks that way so that makes no sense too. I watch many cartoons and I'm old. ;^^


Why many countries don't want other cartoons from other countries is because they take away that country's "cartoon image". Japan is known for J-anime and USA is known for Disney *cringes when said Disney*. Japan had hesitation on having USA cartoons broadcast over there. When someone takes over the main stream on animation in any country, they can get tons of money from that country. Believe me, developed country kids will almost buy anything with their favorite character on it.

This doesn't stop with cartoons but with movies, TV shows, books, etc. One thing to note is that not everything that comes inside a country from a different one is trying to "take over". ^^

Anime? Yes, it taken over. There's nothing stopping it unless there was a ban.

*sighs* That's enough with economics, to Astro Boy.

Astro Boy does make people cringe because of the dark themes it discusses. I showed the first episode at class one day on a presentation I did on "Animation and Astro Boy: In the 60's, There Was a Boy Named Astro..." (long title, yes. ;^^). People sat there, mouths wide open, surprised. Child cruelty and nudity were the main things they commented on it (they didn't listen to anything I said on my paper! . They are use to cartoons with this in them but all of those were funny not serious as in Astro Boy.

It is sad that people are turned off on the first episode. I agree with some of them that it's totally different from other cartoons but this series isn't all about sadness and evil. It also has a light-heartedness to it, funny, and has many little things to learn from it.

Remember, I'm an Astro Boy fan! Yea! ^_^

I know. One of my favorite things about Astro Boy is that it can have Dark themes, yet at the same time be light and silly.

One of my sisters has been a bit freaked out at some of the anime she's seen me watching. 3x3 Eyes (rated M15 in Australia) and Ninja Scroll (rated R18). Never mind that I'm 28, but I think it upsets her view of what cartoons should look like. It can take a while for people to adjust to the notion that animation is a medium rather than a genre.
