Astro is not "Pinocchio".... We need to understand this. Astro is a resurrected being like Christ or Genesa. The creator of Astro's Good is also the creator of The Atlas evil, and is therefore an analog of God. Clearly. "Pinocchio" has never lived, and was a piece of wood draped wit a garment from the start. Astro has recurring memories of his former life.... :p h34r: :p h34r: :p h34r: :p h34r: :wahah: :wahah: :wahah:

Astro has recurring memories of his former life....

:o I guess you refer to the new series, right? I had't been able to see it yet :( .
In the 80's version I can recall only one scene he's talking about his former life, namely
in the ep 'Robot Circus'.
Astro's lying on his bed and Cathy sits beside him rubbing his eyes ( :wub :) , and
Astro says: "That feels good. It seems like someone else rubbed my eyes a long time ago.
I remember there was someone very kind who was always with me".

Could it be a part of Toby's mind entered Astro's electronic brain  ?
I guess that would be in his ROM-unit B) ;) .

Exactly... Rememeber that Star trek ep with The M-5 computer? How about Robocop? Human neurons imprinted on circuits. More a Cybo than a Robo.... "...This my son was dead and is alive again, was lost and is found.." Said Tenma. :wahah: :wahah: :wahah: :wahah:    :p h34r: :p h34r: :p h34r:

"Five mighty starships, toys to be crushed!" :D :D

In reference to the new series, do not believe Atom was resurrected. Tenma merely created him with false memories (Total Recall), so that although he was a robot, he would behave as though he were Tobio Tenma/Astor Boynton. He, just as Scharzenegger's character thus remembered things that he never experienced, and could not discern between his real memories and those implanted false memories. B)

The older series did not emphasize Tobio's memories. I do not think that the character of Dr. Tenma was half the madman as depicted in the new series.

I must disagree with you.... Astro has soul, Kikoorooo or however you say it. The essence of a human heart, that's the entire premise of the anime. and i'm sure you will find out later that he is in fact Tobio reborn. <_< <_< <_< :P :P :P [/b][/quote]
Do you feel Astro is more like the hapless "AI" robot? From the kubrik film?

the way I see it, I compare astro to Johnny 5 rather than any of the other robots, or pinocchio, i mean he has been shown in all series to have emotions and such, I looked at it where it seems he is alive and his masters and the people around him are saying "no you are programmed to say these things" just like Johnny 5 just take a look at the 1st episode of the 60's version

Nuku Nuku also has kokoro. However, Kokoro has nothing to do with resurrection. A robot that had been deactivated then reactivated does not equal a human that had been dead but was later resurrected. Although, in the new series, reactivation was a bit more than merely flipping the 'on' switch, it was more reminiscent of the first Frankenstein film, than Christ rising from the dead.

In the manga, there was a happy ending to the sad ending of the 60s anime, in which Atom was destroyed by the sun. The manga made a sequel to that story in which aliens found and repaired the melted hero. But repairing a burnt out robot and resurrecting a dead human are two very different things.

However, if you want to see it as echoing your religious beliefs, you should know that Tezuka was a Buddhist, and Astroboy has always reflected Buddhist values. All life is sacred to our little hero.

ahhh Jeffbert. Do you think there is no resurrection in the Buddha? The vehicle of the Buddha is the resurrected "White Elephant king" or Ganesa the Son of Shiva the destroyer as he is known in the Rik Veda from which the Gotoma Buddha sprang. But resurrection is a Vedic precept. Om the undying. The Golden Embryo.... As I said before, all popular Anime is based on the divine and classical mythos. Pygmallion is more akin to astro.. Frankenstein has the mind of a murderer!!!! Astro is an innocent. And his memories are not false. He visits his old home and makes a penetration like a true Lama. He remembers his old toys.   ;) ;) ;) :P :P    :p h34r: :p h34r: :p h34r:
Amitabha.... Indeed... Astro is the very echo of a Bodhisattva, A world saviour. Which is an Enlightened Heavenly personage, a Saint come back from heaven through rebirth or resurrection. Enlightened child of Heaven as it were. With Divine weapons. Let me be blunt.... ASTRO HAS A GHOST.
