I'm greatly enjoying Cartoon Network's airing of the new Astro Boy series. They seem to have respect for the history of the character and they aren't hacking it to pieces to add commercials every 5 minutes like Kid's WB (ok, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but I felt they overdid it a bit).
Anyhow...it just occured to me that we haven't seen Mr. Pompous yet. Does anyone know if he appears later on in the series? It's sort of weird not seeing him. Hasn't the character appeared in durn near everything Tezuka's ever done? Would this be the first time the character has never appeared in a Tezuka series?
BTW...in an article on Astro Boy in this month's issue of Animation magazine, the author erroneously refers to the Detective Tawashi character as if he were Mr. Pompous. He goes as far as mentioning the character's (Tawashi) appearance in Tezuka's Metropolis as being the Mr. Pompous character. <_<
Also...they mention a tie-in with the new series and the Hardee's fast-food chain. Considering how fast Kid's WB dropped the series, I wonder if this promotion has been jettisoned.

No Mr. Pompous?
