anime top 10 AND ANIME MOVIES TOP 10
Mahoromatic, Photon, Nuku Nuku
Mahoro, Nuku Nuku, and Cutey Honey are female combat androids.
Photon is a little boy with the Hulk's strength.
The common theme is that of adult females and young boys. I do not know if there is anything sexual about this theme, but after seeing all these, I could not help but note the similarities.

Nuku Nuku is an android/ cyborg with the brain of a kitten.
Mahoro is a retired combat android who spends her last few days (her power supply cannot be replaced or recharged), working as a maid for 14 yr. old Suguru (she has reasons of her own, but I will not spoil) who is an orphan. Action, humor, and bare skin of cute teenage girls make this series fun. The school teacher has naughty sexual fantasies involving the boy, which I find is the only objectional thing to the series.
Photon is a cute little boy who stumbles accross a speeping beauty, whom he accedentally awakens. Same kind of fun here as in Mahoromatic, but without the teacher's naughty sexual fantasies.
Excel Saga, Martian Successor Nadesico/ and its spinoff, Gekiganger 3, Dirty Pair/ Burn Up/ Plastic Little
Excel Saga is funny anyway, but much of the humor depends upon the viewers' familiarity with Japanese culture.
Martian Successor Nadesico: good guys try to save the earth from alien invaders. For relaxaition, they watch Gekiganger 3, which has since been made into a real anime.
Dirty Pair/ Burn Up/ Plastic Little
The first two combine comedy, girl, guns, massive destruction, and very mild fan service. Burn up also has the girl fantasizing about some rich guy sweeping her off her feet and ending her money troubles. Along with that theme is Phantom Quest Corp., which also features a main character whose eye for nice things always exceeds her income. Both women fantasize about the charming price ending their indebtedness.

Plastic Little has just about the most beautifully drawn female upper body characteristics, and also the other things just mentioned.
I've always thought it meant references for the audience. For example, in one episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Raphael says "What do you think this is? A cartoon?".
That is an aside, a term for when the charater addresses either the audience or thinks aloud.

As far as that goes, I value humor much higher than fan service.

Grave of the Fireflies (apparently the saddest ending of all time)
Princess Mononoke (I've wanted to see this for the longest time)
I saw those animes in the cinema 2 years ago. The ending of 'Grave Of The Fireflies' is very sad indeed, I was on the verge of tears, really. Considering the dramatic and realism
it might as well could've been a real movie.
Princess Mononoke is a great fantasy-anime with a lot of action and profoundity too.
I remember those forrest-ghosts shaped like great big wild boars, and they tried to protect Princess Mononoke from the influence of a guy who had fallen in love with her.
I don't know the exactly storyline anymore, I'd love to see both of them once again.

Wild Arms.
Is this related to teh Game Series of the same name? I found a game here called Wild Arms 3 and it looked like Final Fantazy in the American West. Very intreaguing but @ $100 it was unafordable for me.
I think it is, but have only seen the OAV, I know zilch about the game.
When I first began viewing this, its theme music immediately reminded me of Sergio Loene and Clint Eastwood's Speghetti Westerns. All through the series there are things that likewise tasted like speghetti. Anyway, it was really a funny series, except for its ending, which I found rather ambiguous.

"Astro, you must exceed the limitations that humans cannot!
You must be go beyond nationality, ethnicity,
pilosophy, and religion,
starvation and poverty,
and war!
Exceed these limitations created by man!
You must fly high! Higher than any human has ever flown before!
To reach for the future that no human has been able to so far!"

I was just giving Excel Saga a second view, and with the AdVid note turned on. Unfortunately, so many pop up, and are gone very fast. I need to pause the thing about every 5 seconds, just to read them.
Anyway, I noticed that either ep 22 or 23 (the second one on disc 6) parodies Fist of the North Star. Oh, it is so much more fun having seen the thing being parodied first!

I just saw Excel Saga for the first time. Oh boy, that's gotta be the funniest cartoon I've ever seen! A far bit of it I found a little too intense, mostly the voice acting of Excel, but just when I thought it was getting too slapstick they would slip in the most subtle and hilarious anime in-joke that would have me in stitches!
I've only seen the first five episodes. I think my favourites were the one where Excel's boss starts controlling reality with his Gameboy, and the one with the corporate cover-up where Excel gets the security password off the toilet wall. And then the other woman accidently e-mails the corruption document to the media...
Reporter: What now? Not another anonymous e-mail! Hmmm? Holy cow! This is ...
Boss: This is amazing!
Reporter: And if we analyze the header, we can get it's origins too!
Boss: Yes, but that can wait until later. This is going on the front page!
I also saw Grave of the Fireflies. I found it sadder watching the start again after seeing the whole movie, because they show the end first and it made more sense after. I thought it was sad, but I've seen other anime that I found more moving. Even some episodes of Astroboy. But it was probably just the mood I was in at the time.
I watched Fist of the North Star with my sister and her boyfriend, then just with her boyfriend. We couldn't help laughing at it either, it was so over the top. Not actually humerous, but entertaining on a level that we couldn't quite identify.
You know that guy who could cut people in half with his fingers? He reckoned the music played when he came on was so 70s porn star music! Personally, I though the entire cast could have been from an 80s glam rock band. Van Halen, perhaps. Something about their hair.
Did you know there's a live action version of Fist of the North Star?
I'm thinking of using this as my avatar.

What do you reckon?

Angel Cop
I think I have seen that. It has a truly gross-out scene where a head is blown apart.
Futurama was the most frustrating thing I have ever tried to watch. Ok, I am not a football fan, but even if I were, it still stinks that FOX tv put this show on right after the football game, that usually ran too long. Now, if it ran into the Simposons time slot, the Simpsons would still be shown without beginning in the middle. But not Futurama. No, that show simply got no respect.    And after it won awards, FOX cancelled it!!
Castle of Cagliostro: I came accross this by sheer accident. The other Lupin shows and movies are listed under 'Lupin', but not this one. I will watch it soon.
Grave of the fireflies was the saddest thing I have ever seen, it makes Oliver Twist look like a picnic.

Kenshiro: "Ah-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha."
Bad guy: "I didn't feel a thing."
Kenshiro: "you're already dead."
Bad guy: head explodes.

Patlabor: I thought this was ok, but after just seeing Mahoromatic, Dirty Pair Flash, and some others that were really funny and had some fan-service, I was not sure I could sit through this. I am now awaiting the second movie.
