Hey could someone how I could put up my own avatar? I've tried doing it before, it only looks like you can put some up from websites. Is that the case or can you put up your own?

Avatar Help
Hi Mate, yes it is posible to put up your own avatar as I have just done it, but it is a tad fiddly to do so.
THis is how I did it..
My ISP allows me some space on their server for a webpage, so I uploaded my avatar to my space there. I then put the URL into the avatar setting in the user options and presto.
if that makes sense to you then good stuff. If not let me know and i will elaborate further.

three and a half years.. for what?
I have my own webpage supplied by the company that I get my internet connection thru, most ISP's do. Mine has its own FTP server you can use to upload info. If you can access something like that thru your Internet service Provider, its easy after that. Choose the pics you want for you AV & sig, then load them to the STP folders your ISP has provided. once thats done, you use the http// address of the picture and put that in the relevant spots in your profile. That will link to the pics & they will apear in your post...if the address is correct. It sounds complicated but its easy once you get the hang of it
If I can help I can offer to load the pics into my folders & give you the link to them so you can poat them to your profile....let me know.

ok Lauren hon.. here we go.
- Your ISP will have provided you upload space. Who is your ISP? You can go to their home page and there will almost certainly be a 'support' section. Thru this support section you 'should' be able to find information on how to access your webspace. The most common way of doing this is using something called FTP.
Now FTP is sort of simillar to windows explorer, but it allows you to move data (your pics for your avatar and -sig, for example) from your HD to your webspace. TRUST ME when I say FTP is easy to learn to use, because I did it only last week. If I can learn how to use it, anyone can!! I am sure yo uare MUCH smarter than me!
- Once the pics you want to upload for your avatar and -sig are in your webspace you will need to link to them from your "My Controls" pages at the top of this page. See it up there at the top in the same little frames bit as your login name?
In there you will find an imput cell where you type in the address of the avatar. It will be something like. yourUsername.yourISP.com/picsDirectory/Avatar.jpg or some ISPs use a slightle different layout such as yourISP.com/~YourUsername/PicsDirectory/Avatar.jpg something simillar to that anyway. By the time you have worked out FTP you will know just what to type anyway, so all is good
That is really ALL there is to it!! It really is as loubear mentioned, simple once you know how.. and learning how is something even I could do so you should have no trouble.
So, its..
1) Find out from your ISP how to access your webspace on their server.
2) Upload your avatar.jpg (and also sig.jpg if you wish) to your webspace, usually using FTP.
3) type the address of the avatar (and sig if yo uhave one) into the correct cells under your "My Controls" section at the top of this page.
If you are still having troubles, then I am SURE that ANY of us would be only too happy to talk you thru this process step by step in an IM or pm etc. But I have faith in you mate! I know you can do it!
