Need... help...
But they behave as if they had a soul like Astro, does it mean that the "soul robot technique" has been totally mastered? I haven't heard of anything like that...

The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

That's a good point. Now that I think about it, a lot of robots acted like Astro in the 80s series. Uran and Livian and Fireball fell in love, Ben and Cruiser felt anger, even the nondescript robots from A Robot President and Blackie Young seemed to have that soul behaviour (desiring justice, having families, etc). Matthew Tennyson grew up into an adult and no one spotted he was a robot!

Frankenstein's monster knew love, or lack thereof, hate, lonliness, and desired both a companion and vengeance upon his creator.
Pinocchio was naive, cruel (he crushed the cricket, except in the Disney version), and desirous (he wanted to be a real boy).
Nuku Nuku protects the weak and is susceptable to catnip-induced madness.
Mahoro possesses a perfect heart, and like Nuku Nuku, protects those weaker than herself. She decided to be Suguru's maid because she was remorseful about his father's death. She sacrifices herself to protect her master.
Lila (Najica Blitz Tactics) adopts an android little boy, and must defy her human partner to keep him safe. The other android woman sacrificed her 'life' to protect this same boy. A real tear-jerker, that scene was.
Fictional depictions of robots and other artificial humans are replete with examples of human emotions. Nobody holds the exclusive rights to depict human emotions in robots.

Ooops, I should not neglect to mention Dorothy (Big O), who although normally quite reserved in her emotions, does show by her actions love and hate.
Then there is Jiru (Android Kikaider), whose emotions are quite visable at times.
And what about IDAK (Lost in Space), whose favorite saying is "Crush, kill, destroy." Even he eventually showed love.
If you have seen T2 the director's cut, you have seen the Terminator attempt a smile. And although he was seemingly unemotional, his dedication to his master, the John Connor of the future, caused him to sacrifice himself. I would mention the paradox involved, but I want to remain on this subject.

I think Fafner's point was that within Astro's story he was depicted as a breathrough robot who had a soul and was like a link between robots and humans. But most of his actions and emotions are seen in various other robots throughout the series.
I noticed in the 80s series Astro showed a desire to be human at times (The Hijacked Airship, Lilly on Peligro Island, etc). When I was little and watched the show I wanted to be a robot!
Or at least a cyborg. B) Did anyone else feel this way? Anyone?

I knew about robots when I was a kid, but did not hear about cyborgs until much later in life. As far as wanting to be a robot, when can I start? I have had it with this decrepit human body!![]()

I don't see Astro as a link between robots and humans (although it looks that's the point in the 2000s), rather as a breakthrough as DrFrag said. I was just wondering how, because it is a breakthrough, there could be so many robots showing genuine emotions without being based on Astro's SECRET plans
Should I remember that they are SECRET, although for some robots they have been stolen (Atlas, Nikki)

Dude.. j00 is giving me Ghost in the Shell Flashbacks.
STOP THIS AT ONCE
Altho, on the cyborg theme there was a lot of b-grade cyborg films made in the mid-late 80's to early 90's and as most seasoned film adicts will tell you (and what 90% of film watchers totally miss) is that most of these films all had amazing stories and comples head trips included. Between the crappy spfx and gratuitous boobies shots, of course.
It was strange. It was almost as if film makers did not really start to understand what the sci-fi writers were trying to do since asimov or more probably Dick.
But hey, I woulnt want to be a robot or a cyborg. Most of the basic emotions and or feelings that come with self aware sentient existance are usually highly and inseperately associated and linked to the feelings of the flesh. its a philosophical symbiotic relationship that if not balanced by both sides looses what most of its meaning should be.
yeah, ok, I will go take my medication now..
three and a half years.. for what?
