Excuse me but the Real Alternative pack plays everything and anything the latest RealPlayer plays, because it uses the exact same DLL's. (where did you get the 6 from?)

Any codec that attempts to force you to stream rather than download should be shunned. Not to mention the setup problems with RealPlayer. I'm still using version 8, because installation only requires me to turn off playing a clip on startup, disable StartCentre, disable Channel headline updating, disable automatic scrolling for Channel headlines, drop the alert level on new information, disable automatic links, drop the alert level on product flashes, disassociate other media types from RealPlayer, set the connection speed, set the play buffer length, set the right clip cache length, and disable all support information crap. Then all I need to do is cancel electronic registration every time I want to play a clip and confirm that I want to cancel electronic registration by decyphering their poorly worded confirmation options. Oh yeah, and do I want to set Real.com as my homepage? Are they freaking insane?!? :angry:
Later versions get so frustating that I've never made it through installation. This is software at its worst.

and then after all that, the quality is rubbish, playback is terrible, and stability is unbelievably poor.

now if you will excuse me, after reading the Docs post I need to go take aspirin and lie down for 20 mins. RealPlayer is a headache just READING about its 3v1L.

From their specs.. I have not had these problems. I have not seen a player where you don't have to set the file assocs. I have quicktime, Real,and Media player, and Divx. My real player plus plays most media types. I watch full length movies from Movieflix and others. Mixed media.

cybotron, that's actually just a DLL version number and has nothing to do with player, encoder or video versions.

cybotron, I've actually got nothing against the RealVideo format myself (I cant speak for others here) my only beef is with RealPlayer, which is why I posted the link to the RealAlternative pack, its great that the BBC is using the format and thanks to the RealAlternative pack I can watch those clips, otherwise I'd ignore the format completely.
