In the '80, I saw 2 episodes in whitch we see Atlas remembering when we was a small robot :
- The crystal of the desert
- Atlas lives again

I wonder : is it just "Atlas remembering" or is it flashbacks from previous episodes which I never saw???

I bought 15 episodes in VHS format this weekend. It was the first time I watch Astro of the '80 serie since I was 7 years old... and wow! :o B) I understand now why I was so fascinated by Astro. It's really a great show. I don't know any recent show which is as good as the '80 serie of Astro.

Bye

The reason why you don't know about this is a shame  (not your fault)
You have probably seen the English versions (or maybe others but not the Japanese one). In the non-Japanese version of the firsts episodes (the ones where Astro is created), about 20 minutes have been CUT !!!!! Essentially all the scenario dealing with Atlas. Do you remember in the first episode when Astro's eyes blink red? Usually that's when Atlas is involved somewhere, but you don't see Atlas in this episode. In the Japanese version, it's the moment where Atlas is activated.
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

Can you explain me why they made such cuts!!!!

WHY????!!!

If they want to show the serie, show it completely!!! If not, just not show it!

I have only hypothesis to explain such an atrocity
My first hypothesis was to cut violent scenes, or at least ones who could shock. For example, in the first episode they have cut the scene when Tobiyo dies at the hospital. Ok for that as it almost made me cry although I'm not a kid anymore and I didn't event understand what they were saying as it was Japanese ( and of course I don't understand Japanese ;) ). Moreover, although it is a key point in the serie, there is no need to show it, as seeing the dog watching Tobiyo's hat lying on the ground is enough to understand what happened.

But the part of the scenario dealing with Atlas has no more violence than the other part, so for this one I have two more hypothesis:
1. They just had timing problems. Strange as there are only small cuts in others episodes, not almost the half...
2. They thought that two parallel scenarios was too hard for children to understand. It is effectively the only episodes where there is parallelism in the scenario (to my knowledge at least).
Either of these two hypothesis are a shame at my opinion, but I see nothing else.
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.
