yep, totally agree, I was optimistic about the new series when I first heard about it but the movie is something that I wouldn't care much for even if it did have a chance of being a good movie given that it probably will be as you say "Bastardized" by americano hands.

It is silly to compare astro to that wimp and his blue fairy.
Astro is a action character, a fighter, a warrior... This will not be scubby do. Tenma will be there, probably Atlas. It will be a cross between Spiderman and inspector Gadget as far as animation goes... And Samurai Jack is way DEEP. Perhaps over the heads of most. Astro could look like a real boy or just the way he looks in anime.

Samurai Jack is noted for having tributes to everything in its shows. SInce this is an Astroboy thread I'm posing this question. Has anybody noticed any tributes to Astroboy in the Samurai Jack series?

Well geee. No i have not seen any Astro that I can think of, except for of course, The "Jack's Childhood" episode XIX which was beautiful beyond thought.... But Tartakovsky is great. Check out these clips from the DVD... Boy Samurai Jack is good. I can't wait to see how Tartakovsky handles Astro. :wahah:

Sorry if this belongs in General Discussion

I saw very limited footage of Dexter's Labratory and Powerpuff Girls but enough to see that Tartakovsy knew what he was doing. They weren't my type of shows so I didn't watch but when everybody around me starting talking about Samurai Jack I had to give it a shot because its premise was something I knew I'd go for. Tartakovsy knows what he's doing. Up here in Canada they haven't shown a lot of episodes so there's still a good amount of stuff I haven't seen.

If episode XIX is what I think it was than yes that episode was truly fantastic.

I saw AI, and did not think poorly of it. Clearly, it borrowed plot elements from Astroboy, but this is no crime. Like it or not, Cybotron, Astroboy had a few similarities to Pinocchio (the number is dependant upon which incarnation you choose). If you care to take issue with this, please support your opinion with relevant evidence, and use the thread that you started some time ago. I empathized with the robot boy, and was quite satisfied with its quality, although I would have preferred a happy ending.

Anyway, going back to the topic at hand, I occasionally watch PPG, Dexter, Grim &-- Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, C the c Dog, etc. I cannot find fault with the selection of the creative team on this project before seeing the results of its work.

As far as 3D CGI goes, my fondest memories of Atom are 2D B&W, so I cannot say whether I will like the 3D version. All I know is that of all the movie remakes of old shows, I cannot think of even 1 that captured the essence of the show. The best parody I can remember was Dexter's Lab Mock Five, but we are talking about movies.

• Bullwinkle: would have been much better in a serial format interspersed with Fractured Fairy Tales, Prof. Peabody, etc, and of course having cliff hanger endings. Other than that, I thought it was ok.
• George of the Jungle: I did not see it, but without the Elvis-hairstyle, I had no expectation of any other thing being true to the show.
• Lost in Space: Its Plot was ok, but the newer styled ship & robot were not ok.
• Star Trek was not a remake, but a continuation of the series.
• Dudley Doright: Ok, so maybe this one remake was ok.

Those are all that come to mind.

Astro is an agent of the State. And is classified as a military weapon.
Astro is violence capable.
Compare Astro to Samurai Jack... Mix them and see what I mean.
