We all understand that today a minority is using Islam to accomplish bad things, the same way "Holy" Christian Inquisition in Dark Ages did, as stated Cybotron. But as I said before, this forum is not the place to discuss such Flame wars prone matters. Thank you for the compliment. I just finished my BA in Humanities. I am now a rather unbiased person; however, there was a time in my life when I was a Fundamentalist xxx(censored to avoid offence). At that time (20 years long), I blindly accepted as true the things in the Book. However, events have shown me the error of that assumption, and a minor in PSYC did much to help free me from the dogmatic perspective.

After the PCSY courses, I find I cannot blame people for their religious beliefs, no matter what I might think of them. Humans are quite capable of holding contrary views, self-contradictory beliefs, and somehow ignoring logical critiques of their own beliefs, all the while applying coherent logic to someone else's beliefs. It would be funny, if it did not cause so much trouble. As Cybotron has noted, Christianity was not without its own rather lengthly period of bloodshed. This occured despite the Bible's (New Testament) non violent preaching. The part about "suffer a witch not to live" must be considered in light of the "do unto others" part.

I have heard some critics of Islam quote some passages that seem to support the current bloodshed. As I have never read the Quran, I cannot tell in what context any seeming justification for the treatment of infidels occurs. As this is the case, I cannot offer any comment thereon. However, the fact that when the Ottomon Empire was the world power, and yet, its laws allowed these infidels to live within its borders and practice their own religions seems to be in conflict with the Wahabbist doctrine. Which, BTW, was a minority doctrine, despised by the peace-loving majority, until the coincidence of Wahab & the House of Saud (mispelled?) forming an alliance against that Empire. the Saudis provided Wahab with protection from those who threatened him, and Wahab prayed for the successful war of liberation from the Ottomon's rule. The succesful liberation from the Empire implied that the Saudis' adherance to Wahbbist doctrine was the deciding factor, and hence, the current situation in regards to infidels.

The story is found in a lengthly 3 volume series of adventures that starts with volume 6 & ends in volume 8. If you do not want to see it in context, I will check to see which of those 3 volumes has it.

I'm very torn on this topic and not wuite sure how to say what I feel so forgive me if this is a bit scattered. Anyway, I'm an american, but I was born in the 80s so I wasn't around during the Veitnam war. I personally though thought the whole concept of the war was stupid and never should have happened. That being said, I can't say the soliders in it were bad people. (not all of them anyway.) It wasn't there idea to be there. They were just following orders. I read that manga and appreciated the message. War stinks.

2. You are welcome. I am going to catalog all the manga and anime stories and link them according to similarities. But, it will be a while before I do so.

This topic was about the Osamu Tezuka depiction of the war in Vietnam. Not about the current wars in the middle east. Use your freaking brain..Who wanted a picture of war? hm?
