I saw "I Robot" Friday, & after having read "The Naked Sun", I can say that it carried the 1st law to its most extreme interpretation. I will defer further comment on the film, lest I spoil it for those who have yet to see the film.

However, the novel The Naked Sun had a human who wanted to do something that a robot thought would be (psychologically) harmful to him. The robot would not allow him, and would have restrained him by force, if necessary.

1st Law: A robot may not harm a human, or by inaction, allow harm to come to a human.*

* In "The Naked Sun" this is explained more fully, and as stated above, relies upon a certain assumption.

"... Seems alot like "I, Robot" to me, but not ****." Please rephrase your statement. ;)

Do you belive that man will use these laws and not build robot soldiers.... Killing robots?

I have no doubt that the three laws will not soon become universal; there are cruise missiles, which, although not fully autonomous, do have some degree of autonomy. Moreover, it seems that people will make things just to see if they can make them.

Nothing can stop judgement day, it is inevitable. Since we're all gonna die anyway, I'll just sit back & order another Meat-Lovers' Pizza, double bacon no ham. :D

well... I'm sitting here scarfing a meat lovers pizza waiting for the RAW matches to start. And I don't think there's much chance for universal robot law. I can see the day when a robo army swoops down on somebody. Hitachi droids? Honda Robo marines? Flying hunter killers, are inevitable. (chomp, munch, slop, eat, chew, swallow, keep down, digest...) anyway

Yeah, think that the most hellish role asigned to people (apart from sewer cleaner maybe...) is that of the soldier, we'd be really quick to give that job to Robots.

But as for humans versus robots, i still have a bit of faith in the human race. We have the power of innovation.

Yeah. Exactly. I mean they will run because to be a soldier is just the toughest most thankless job. They rush to produce recon, and hunter killer and robocop security droids.
