Ah yes... there is that version :P
I'm not sure if edited dubs should be considered seriously ;) What is the purpose of changing that part of the scenario? It even make things more complicated because there is the growth problem. Of course once one succeeded in creating a robot with a soul, a robot which grows shouldn't be a great challenge, but why bothering with such details where the original story was already correct? :o
Ok, let's put this aside. Now it's done, we can't do anything about it :(
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

There was a story in the 80s anime in which the growth problem was addressed by the 'father' every few weeks discarding the old robot and replacing it with one just a tiny bit larger. A really dumb plot had him continuing this process even after his 'son' was fully grown, and had become a Space Cop. I think this episode was Outer Space Port R45.

Yes, I remember this one. In the French version they have discarded the problem and the "son" had had his accident only a few months ago instead of several years.

Sorry if I hurt you, my point was not that the new plot is silly, rather that the English dubs (and maybe other ones) don't respect the original work.
I should add also that in the case of "Spaceport R45", I prefer the original plot, and you can see it is exactly the same as the edited dub for Atlas ;) Except maybe that the robot is not aware he his a robot. Was Daichi/Atlas aware he was a robot when he was a kid?

Nah, ya didn't hurt me. I'm just one of the people who thinks robots CAN grow up. Long story, don't ask. And yeah, Daichi/Atlas was aware that he was a robot. In the "Atlas" episode, one of of his motorcycle gang buddies said he thought Daichi had been dismanteled and Daichi replies, "Yeah, but only to add a few improvments." :D

Oh, so Atlas is Astro's brother but he's a bad guy? I get it now! thanks! Im realy going to have to see the "Atlas" episode sometime...

Actually, you can see it now if you wanted to. It's up on Anapan's FTP site. Depending on your connection, it could take a while to download, but it's worth it. I think you might also need some stuff like Divex or something like that. There are two episodes so far. "Atlas" and "Astro vs Atlas". Both are really cool episodes!

btw i read your fanfic LLJade, its awsome! gongrats!

*blushes deep red* Why thank you...that really means alot to me. Do you have AIM, YIM, or MSN messanger by any chance? Maybe we can talk sometime.

Oh, that's strange. Maybe he was working on it at the time you tried to view it? It's been known to happen before.

And what's your YIM screen name?
