since you are an 80's astro fan, Louis '74, cana you tell me what is the story of the young Atlas?

:) Sure.
Attention: spoiler-warning!

The villain Skunk had stolen the plans for Astro's mechanical design. According to them, Atlas was built, Astro's 'brother'. As a consequence, Atlas has had the same powers as Astro, with the only difference that Walpur Guiss (another scoundrel, the one who created Atlas) had put the so-called 'Omega-Factor' in Atlas' electronic brain, which forces him to do evil deeds.

Livian was Walpur Guiss' servant at that time. She felt sympathy for the boy Atlas, and she eventually took care of him. That was Atlas' first relationship with her.
Livian got destroyed by Walpur Guiss after she had broken an ugly statue, a precious property of Guiss.
Livian's destroying raised Atlas' wrath against Walpur Guiss which leaded to a fight between them. Atlas got badly damaged, and he barely made it to Guiss' lab, in which he eventually remodeled himself to the 'adult 'Atlas. He also resurrected Livian to his faithful girlfriend.

I hope this can be read as logical to some extent.

You can, but of course you need to understand Japanese to really understand all ;)
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.
