Ok I'm 100% new to the Astro Boy world. I brought the GBA game not long back and I though it was really good so I decided to do a little research.

I wish the history section on this page was a lot more hopeful than what it is.

I would first like to know how many issuse/volunes of Astro Boy manga there is, and if its still going.
I would aslo like to know where I can find scans of all the manga (if such a place exsist).

I have seen a few of the black and white episodes, which I think are reallt bad, and seen some of the color episodes, which have the worse theme tune of all time.

I was wondering why Astro Boy has suddenly sprang back to life, has his creator die or something? Did Sega just feel like making a game and the games has brought life back into Astro Boy or what?

I was wondering if the new anime will continue from previous ones or start a new, and will it based of the games?

The creator and author of Astro (original name: Tetsuwan Atomu) was Osamu Tezuka and died in 1989. The reason why Astroboy is suddenly coming back from everywhere is probably because last year was the year when Astro was born in the fictional universe. For this occasion they created a new serie, and games followed on PS2 and GBA.
Each of the 3 series (1960, 1980 and 2000) basically have the same scenario with variations. Each times the drawing technology is different.

If you want, you can download episodes from each series at the following FTP servers:
ftp://ast:ast@207.81.227.247:6872 (mostly English/Japanese)
ftp://ftp_user:ESQhJ@fafner.homelinux.com (mostly French, a few English/Japanese)

The Astroboy issues you can get from Dark Horse consist of 23 volumes, which corresponds with a Japanese reprint compiling what Tezuka considered his best Astroboy work. If you enjoy it, check out his other manga (Phoenix, Buddha, Adolf, Black Jack, Lost World, etc.) since Astro Boy is rarely considered his best work (limited to only short stories), yet still its his best known, and Astro is probably his best character! All the volumes are currently available, so if you have the $$$ you can go get the entireity of them now.

The GBA game is really nice--Treasure did a good job with the classic game play: a nice bit of Gunstar Heroes and plenty of horizontal shooter parts. The bird form of pook even reminds me slightly of some patterns that showed up in their legendary Radiant Silvergun. I'm also really impressed how much the game is referential to ALL of Tezuka's work with major characters showing up throughout the game. I played this game before I really knew much Astro and playing it again later I was amazed how the game makers kept everything in context of Tezuka's work.

There isn't just a normal webpage with the episodes downloadable as mpegs or movs is there?

And maybe this site should consider putting te old episodes on it.

I was also wondering if the PS2 game is any good?

There is no webpage for that, there are only the FTP server. However any modern browser should be able to browse through a FTP server the same as with web pages, so you can enter the URLs in your browser and put the modem at work B)

The first FTP server should have 5 of the old episodes (1960) in English, including the first one (birth of Astro).

If you are unabled to browse a FTP server (don't know any reason personally), you can access it through a HTTP mirror: http://fafner.homelinux.com/pub

I remember someone looking for those sprites. I can't remember who it was though...
The sprites may be linked by a discussion here. They may also be linked by the website itself through the "Links" section, have a try with the admin Mark ;)

I haven't actually ripped the sprites yet, but i will being that I'm on my 6th time through the game, and see no reason why not to play the game through a 7th time on a emulator and rip the sprites.

And that site don't work... are the episodes there actually in english or with english subtitles though?

"That site" doesn't have any episodes ;) But the following sites have:
ftp://ast:ast@207.81.227.247:6872/
ftp://ftp_user:ESQhJ@fafner.homelinux.com/ or http://fafner.homelinux.com/pub
Refer to each site to know the language of audio/subtitles. The first one works with directories ("sub" for subtitles and "dub" for audio), the second one contains all in the names (en=English, jp=Japanese, fr=French, st=subtitle).
