Until now I thought 'Chibi' was the name of Sailor Moon's future daughter in her magic girl guise. Yet you use it to mean 'small'.

Yes, chibi is the Japanese word for little kid, tot, dwarf, or midget.
One step further is chibi mi, which means pewee or runt.
The Japanese love to chibify there character toys. I have chibi Astro and Ultraman alarm clocks. I've evan seen chibi Inu Yasha plushes.

Her name is Chibiusa which is short for Chibi Usagi. Her real name is the same as her mum's (Usagi) but seeing as that would be confusing and she is small she gets Chibiusa. Then in Sailor form she's Sailor Chibi Moon.

Chibi does just mean small and everything with that sort of look (smaller version look) is called chibi by western anime fans particulary.

animals in Nihongo: Usagi means rabbit.

So, Chibi Usagi (Chibiusa) is baby bunny

There's a comic character by Stan Sakai named Usagi Yojimbo, which means Rabbit Bodyguard.

Learning Japanese is fun. Maybe we should start a thread for learning Japanese and all of us post words, phrases and sentences, evan Japanese characters if possible, espaecially those that post from Japan or any others that speak fluent Japanese.
I'd go there all the time, and contribute what little I know. I have three Japanese dictionaries.

I have the figure of Astro. Or one similar. It didn't come in that box but it's praticlly the same figure. I love it. Seeing all the toys they have in Japan, I wish they'd just taken those toys and put them in american boxes like they did with Sailor Moon and Pokemon.

Yeah, I agree and the Japanese boxes open easily and are resealable, unlike the American boxes that you have to tear open thus ruining the collectable value.

 I just got my shipment today, fast service huh? The two coloring books are beautiful. They read right to left like a Japanese book. There's so many nice pics of the characters that I'm considering them art books, like the Astro Let's Draw Manga book.

The chibies are great too. The box opens easily at the top and you just pull out the plastic tray that holds the chibies, no shreading required. Best of all it's resealable, you'd never no it was opened. Such a nice box too, with lots of pics of the characters.
