I see according to the Manga Drawing book for Astroboy that the hip guns use 6.5 mm parabellum rounds with "caseless" Amo. I think Tezuka had to be the first person in the world to ever consider such a concept in ammunition because in the 1950's no one even toyed with the idea.

I've seen a german squad machine gun called the HG-11 now that uses solid non-cased charges and since you don't have to deal with a troublesome spent shell recoil these kinds of guns can fire a maddening volly of metal (1,700 rounds) in under a minute.

I don't think, given his size, that Atom could carry more than a hundred rounds in his trunk.

So why did they leave the guns out of the 2003 remake?

I guess maybe because the machine guns were too "funny"..

I miss the hip guns as well, they had an advantage over his current weapons: they're an actual physical projectile. I mean suppose Astro got into a situation where he was surrounded by or had to destroy a mirror that he could not physically reach himself, or didn't have a brick or something to throw. A mirror would just reflect his lasers and probably his energy arm-weapon thingamabob too, so he'd be stuck.

With the machine guns, all he'd need to do is point his bu...F45TB<H*%^R

It's funny that he doesn't have them in the new series, yet he does in the new game.

I've only seen the first 8 or 10 episodes, thanks to Kids WB and CN, but could they be in later episodes?

I have seen until episode 20, and so far nothing on this matter...

The machine guns were dropped in favor of the left arm super weapon. He can have no more nor less fewer than 7 powers. When something new comes along, something old must go. However, I wonder what 'went' when he first gained the lasers in his fingers?
