The talking dinos get the scientists under their hypnotic control to build a gigantic robot monster.

Mysterious goings on prompt efforts to drain Foggybotom Lake. Talking dinosaurs who spit a potent venom gain hypnotic control of the workmen draining the lake, and it's up to Astroboy to put an end to it. (**This episode was produced by animators handpicked by Tezuka, but he was so disapponted with the end result that all prints in Japan were destroyed. (ie.silly cover Story, he wanted an English only version....) Luckily for us, a print had already been shipped to the US and this english dub is all that survives of "The Lost Episode" of Astroboy.)</span>

Ok... I'm going to alienate everyone again, possibly for the last time, but I doubt it.
What happened to Astro, what happened to Astro?
The character is apocalyptically iconographic. Based obviously on Revelation 10, feet of flame that sort of thing. He keeps Christmas. And this bothers some people. Most people have no idea of the "interior Astroboy Cultus," they know not the beast and his workings. The beast does not like anything in the spirit when it lives. Thus Astro had to be taken out. Pimps and thugs are in, but Astro is out. Why should anyone be suprised? Out of the mouth of the serpent comes the venom.... Those that are subject to the venom know not what they do. They act for the interests of the serpents. The drain.... The Draining of the Lake. Is the draining of the head of the beast. The Beast has water on the brain. Though I have had the full measure of grog, as is my duty every Xmas, I can still see the truth of it. :P
We are not "Madmen".... We only hunger and thirst after Astros rightousness. And his cuteness, and his heroic power, thinking that if we had them we would be loved. But the hero of that world turned out to be Charles Manson. And they threw us aside as madmen and vile. And we can never give up our quest for "in the gadda da vida" or admit that we are destroyed out of Fantasyland in favor of "the insane Clown Posse." So we drain the Lake and kill the beast in our anger and fury, and hurt, and in the grip of our tears.

"...One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy....."

God bless us everyone.

Actually this episode is no longer lost in Japan. I have the official Japanese dvd box set 2 and it's episode 34. Not only that but there's exras for it like a directers commentary, a group interview with the people who made it and an image gallery with original drawings and sketches. Here's the link where you can get your copy. It's expensive but worth it:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=XT-1294

As you can see in the disription, the audio track for episode 34 was lost but recentely found, thank goodness. It looks like nothing was cut on the American print, because I didn't notice anything new in the Japanese print. Unfortunately the audio is in Japanese only with no subs and you'll need a region 2 or region free dvd player. I got mine from Amazon. Finally the Japanese can now enjoy this wonderful episode which was based on the original manga.

Here's another link to what the episode is called in Japan it's episode 34 Midro Marsh:

Instead of a watermelon they used a coelacanth. But that was the early 60's
This image could be one of the reasons that Tezuka San ordered the episode destroyed. This fish is called the "Golden Fish" because anyone that catches one will be rich. This fish is the single most prized fish of all fishes. This is the begining of Tezuka's "Astro and the Beast."

At the rise of the interior cult of the Beast in Hollywood, this film was made. The Japanese title of this Astroboy episode is Midoro Marsh.
ImageWhich is a real place in Japan with it's own ancient mythos and spiritual history. :wahah: There are games and all sorts of samurai adventures set at this place. Demons and heroes.
But the U.S. title is "The Beast from 20 fathoms." This is a play on Revelation 13, the ultimate enemy of the manchild the 666 beast from the sea. And it was decreed, all hail the Beast or die. Early 1950's :wahah:
